  • Publication number: 20040121724
Abstract: In a content distribution system, when distributing content to a plurality of user equipment, a multicasting channel is assigned between the user equipment and the distribution system, content being multicasted using this multicasting channel. If a user equipment fails to receive distributed content, the radio network controller allocates an individual channel between the user equipment and the distribution system to perform re-distribution of the content in response to the user's request.

  • Patent number: 6571107
Abstract: A mobile station connection method is disclosed for performing connection between mobile stations using different speech coding rules. When connecting a call between mobile stations which use different speech coding rules, an exchange determines a coding rule or rules to be used by the two mobile stations to be connected for the call. Each mobile station selects from among a plurality of coders and a plurality of decoders a coder and a decoder to be used in accordance with instructions from the exchange. Speech information can thus be transmitted directly between the two mobile stations because coding/decoding are performed in accordance with the coding rule or rules instructed by the exchange regardless of radio systems of the area in which the mobile stations are present.

  • Patent number: 6477159
Abstract: A mobile communication system and its method, which uses a discrimination code specific to a mobile terminal as an discriminating signal for both of reverse channel and forward channel between a mobile terminal and a mobile communication network, are provided. A mobile terminal includes a predetermined modulating and demodulating code generator, and makes a call connection request through an access channel based on broadcast information from a base station. The call connection request contains an equipment number of the mobile terminal, and based on this equipment number, the network side device discriminates a code corresponding to this mobile terminal. • Publication number: 20020102978
Abstract: In a multi-network environment, a request signal is sent from a user terminal to each of a number of communications networks. In response, the network returns a response signal. Based on the response signals received from all networks, the user selects one of the networks. The response signal contains information on communication services of the requested network such as tariff data and current congestion level. The user terminal then establishes a connection to the selected communications network. In a modified embodiment, request signals may be sent during a handover to base stations of different wireless networks to request for congestion information for selecting a network having the lowest congestion level as a handover destination. In a further modification, when a congestion is encountered in a first network in response to a user's request, a second network of low congestion level is selected and indicated to the user.

  • Patent number: 6370378
Abstract: In a cellular mobile communication network, mobile records are maintained in a first database for indicating a base station area when a mobile station crosses a boundary between adjacent location areas and enters that base station area. A second database is associated with each control group of base station areas for maintaining mobile records for indicating a base station area when the mobile station successively crosses a boundary between adjacent base station areas. In response to a call request, one of the mobile records of the first database is accessed to identify a control group of base station areas and a search request is produced. In response to the search request, one of the mobile records of the second database is accessed and a paging signal is broadcast to at least one base station area indicated in the accessed mobile record to wait for a response from the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 5832383
Abstract: In a mobile communication method, when a terminating call to a mobile station is generated, one of subscriber lines which is connected to a local switch and assigned to the mobile station is captured. A mobile station identification number defined in correspondence with the captured subscriber line is retrieved by using a physical or logical address of the captured subscriber line as a parameter. The mobile station is called through at least one base station by using the retrieved mobile station identification number. • Patent number: 5640391
Abstract: A channel allocation control is performed in an ISDN network comprising full-rate channels each accommodating subrate channels multiplexed therein. A use communication capacity of each full-rate channel is monitored when subrate channel release occurs in any full-rate channel. Referring to the respective use communication capacities of the full-rate channels, subrate channel reallocation is performed such that any subrate channel in use accommodated in a certain full-rate channel is switched to another full-rate channel. The reallocation causes the full-rate channel to be empty. The emptied full-rate channel is released.
