Patent number: 10618458Abstract: A vehicle headlight control device is provided with: a pedestrian detection unit which detects a pedestrian; and a headlight control unit which controls an irradiation state of a headlight. When the pedestrian detection unit detects a pedestrian within an irradiation range of the headlight, the headlight control unit executes dimming control for controlling the irradiation state of the headlight so that a periphery of the pedestrian is dimmed. The pedestrian is irradiated with a part of a high beam or a low beam, or marking light emitted from a dedicated light source. A dimming region is formed around the pedestrian by the dimming control, and contrast in brightness between the pedestrian and his/her surroundings can be raised.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2017Date of Patent: April 14, 2020Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventors: Kota Yuchi, Yasutaka Otsubo, Takehiko Nishida, Masahiro Asahi, Yoshiaki Nakaya, Manabu Yamaoka, Takanori Okahashi, Yoshiaki Matsuba

Patent number: 8662546Abstract: A vehicle bumper structure includes a pair of left and right crush cans, a bumper beam, an energy absorbing member and a bumper face. Each of the crush cans has an outside wall and an inside wall, the inside wall having higher longitudinal stiffness than the outside wall. When a full-wrap collision occurs at a speed below a specified speed limit, neither of the two crush cans crushes but the energy absorbing member and the bumper beam warp and absorb impact energy. When an offset collision occurs at a speed equal to or above the specified speed limit, on the other hand, one of the crush cans sufficiently crushes and absorbs impact energy in a reliable fashion.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2007Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventors: Isamu Kizaki, Masahiro Asahi

Patent number: 7490877Abstract: A bumper reinforcement (10) of a vehicle bumper structure (1) includes a beam member (20), a plate member (30), a plurality of upper end joints (40) by which upper ends of the beam member (20) and the plate member (30) are joined at plural points arranged widthwise, and a plurality of lower end joints (45) by which lower ends of the beam member (20) and the plate member (30) are joined at plural points arranged widthwise. The plate member (30) has a plurality of openings (35) formed therein at properly determined intervals widthwise across the vehicle body as well as a plurality of bead portions (36), each of the bead portions (36) passing between two adjacent openings (35) and bridging one of the upper end joints (40) to the corresponding one of the lower end joints (45).Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2007Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventors: Masahiro Asahi, Teruhisa Noda

Patent number: 7429076Abstract: In a vehicle rear body structure of an automotive vehicle, there are provided the reinforcing members that are provided at the lower face of the floor panel at portions outside the spare tire pan and form with the floor panel the closed cross sections that extend longitudinally in parallel to the rear side frames. The closed cross sections are formed with the reinforcing members and the upper end-side curve portions located outside the spare tire pan, and located substantially at the same height-level as the rear side frames. Thereby, absorption of the impact energy at the vehicle crash can be improved and an improper weight increase can be suppressed.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2006Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventors: Masahiro Asahi, Manabu Tamura, Hiroshi Tanaka, Takayuki Sunakawa

Publication number: 20080054655Abstract: A vehicle bumper structure (3) includes a pair of left and right crush cans (10), a bumper beam (20), an energy absorbing member (30) and a bumper face (35). Each of the crush cans (10) has an outside wall (17) and an inside wall (18), the inside wall (18) having higher longitudinal stiffness than the outside wall (17). When a full-wrap collision occurs at a speed below a specified speed limit, neither of the two crush cans (10) crushes but the energy absorbing member (30) and the bumper beam (35) warp and absorb impact energy. When an offset collision occurs at a speed equal to or above the specified speed limit, on the other hand, one of the crush cans (10) sufficiently crushes and absorbs impact energy in a reliable fashion.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2007Publication date: March 6, 2008Applicant: MAZDA MOTOR CORPORATIONInventors: Isamu Kizaki, Masahiro Asahi
