  • Patent number: 5221953
Abstract: A copying apparatus with a sorter having a plurality of bins and a stapler for stapling sheets distributed to each of the bins. The stapler has a sensor for detecting staples. The stapler is moved along the bins and stopped at a side of each bin to staple the sheets stored in the bin. When the sensor detects no staples in the stapler, the position of the stapler is stored in a memory, and then the stapler is returned to a home position. After the stapler is loaded with staples, the stapler is moved to the position stored in the memory. The sorter has a counter for counting staples in the stapler, and a count value of the counter is compared with the number of copy sets to be made. When the number of copy sets is larger than the count value, an alarm is raised. Further, the copying apparatus has an automatic document feeder for feeding originals to an exposure position one by one, and the automatic document feeder counts the originals before copying.

  • Patent number: 5124754
Abstract: An image forming apparatus which comprises a reading device for reading first and second information given to the reading device one at a time, a manager for managing the image forming apparatus according to the first information read by the reading device, and a control unit for disabling the manager while enabling an image forming system in the event that the second information is read by the reading device. The first and second information is recorded on user's and servicing cards, respectively, each adapted to be set at the reading device. With the user's card bearing the first information set at the reading device, an internal counter installed in the image forming apparatus can perform its counting operation to count the cumulative number of copies being made.

  • Patent number: 5106067
Abstract: A sorter having a finishing function which comprises a distributing unit for distributing printed sheets among a plurality of bins; a stapling unit for stapling the sheets; and a transporting unit for transporting the sheets from each bin to the stapling unit in a predetermined order. In the sorter, when a trouble occurs during the transportation of the sheets from one of the bins to the stapling unit, the transporting operation is discontinued, and when the trouble has been treated, the transporting operation is resumed with the bin next to the bin where the trouble occurred during the sheet transportation. Also, the sorter comprises sensors for detecting the existence of sheets in each bin, and when no sheets are detected in the bin where the trouble occurred during the sheet transportation, the transporting operation is resumed with the next bin, and when sheets are detected in the bin, the transporting operation is resumed with the bin.

  • Patent number: 4905055
Abstract: A copying apparatus comprising a copying machine; a paper handling device for storing and aligning the papers ejected from the copying machine, for stapling them and for ejecting the bound papers therefrom; and a controller for controlling the paper handling device to eject the papers therefrom when an automatic reset system, which resets the copying mode to the initial mode in the case that the copying machine has not operated for a specified time since the completion of a copying operation, is actuated. Also, in this copying apparatus, the papers left in the paper handling device are ejected therefrom when a specified key is pressed so as to actuate an all reset system to reset the copying mode to the initial mode or when a power switch is operated. Further, the papers left in the paper handling device can be ejected with stapled in response to an operation of the automatic reset system, an operation of the all reset system or operating the power switch.

  • Patent number: 4794424
Abstract: A copying apparatus comprises an editor for imputting data for specifying a desired area of a document and designating an edit mode for the specified area, a memory for storing the data of the specified area and data of the designated edit mode, a copying machine for copying an image of an arbitrary area of the document on copy paper and generating an auto-clear signal after a lapse of a predetermined period, and control means for controlling the copying machine based on the data stored in the memory. Thus, when the auto-clear signal is outputted from the copying machine, only the designation of the edit mode in the editor is canceled and the data of the specified area and the edit mode are maintained in the memory.
