  • Patent number: 5852302
Abstract: A quadrupole mass filter, or a multiple-pole mass filter in general, composed of a cylindrical main body made of an insulating material and having a star-shaped cross-sectional profile whose inward bulges are curved substantially hyperbolic, and four electrode layers of a high melting point metal deposited by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The four electrode layers are separated at the outward bulges of the star-shaped cross-sectional profile. The quadrupole mass filter has pre-rod electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5768338
Abstract: This invention relates to an anode for use in an X-ray tube and a method of manufacturing the anode, and to a stationary anode X-ray tube. An anode base formed of copper or the like includes a recess formed in an end surface thereof and having an upwardly diverging inner peripheral wall. An anode target material such as tungsten is directly deposited in the recess by chemical vapor deposition.

  • Patent number: 5588292
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifier uses a honeycomb of an electrically non-conductive material, formed with a plurality of longitudinally extending throughholes through which an exhaust gas is adapted to flow. A conductive layer is formed with an electrically conductive material on inner surfaces of parts of the honeycomb, including at least a portion of each end surface of the honeycomb and a selected center portion of the honeycomb longitudinally extending between the end surfaces where the flow rate of the exhaust gas is higher than elsewhere inside the honeycomb.

  • Patent number: 5569455
Abstract: Method of forming a catalytic bonding layer by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) onto carrier structures including internal combustion engine exhaust system and catalytic converter components, in order to bond a catalyst layer thereto, thereby providing a structure wherein additionally the bonding layer can be energized to promote catalytic conversion-activating preheating of the catalyst. In an electromagnetic induction catalytic preheating system, a ceramic lattice or a metallic network can form the base structure of the catalytic converter, wherein at least the latter is encompassed by an electrical/thermal insulating layer; around either induction coiling is wrapped and secured by a thermally insulating material. Upon engine start, current is electromagnetically induced in the catalytic bonding layer or the metallic network through the induction coiling.

  • Patent number: 5375759
Abstract: A method is provided for applying a self-fluxing, self-bonding alloy coating of a hard facing alloy in powder form to a ferrous metal plate or substrate of melting point substantially higher than that of the hard facing alloy. The method comprises providing a plate of a ferrous metal substrate to be coated in which a surface of the plate to be coated is cleaned, e.g., by grit blasting. A retaining bank is formed substantially about a predetermined periphery of the plate by forming a ridge of a predetermined height on the clean surface to provide a confining zone into which a powder of the hard facing alloy is smoothly applied to a predetermined thickness to provide a composite of the alloy powder and the substrate. The powder may have an average particle size ranging from about 40 mesh to about 400 mesh (U.S. Standard) e.g., about 80 mesh to about 325 mesh.
