  • Patent number: 6208399
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device can realize a broad visual field angle comparable to a cathode ray tube and produce a high brightness and a high image quality, with low power consumption and a narrow frame. To achieve these features, in an active matrix system liquid crystal display device, a counter electrode and a pixel electrode are linearly formed so as not to flatly overlap each other, thus enabling generation of an electric field parallel to the substrate surface, and an insulating film having a specific dielectric constant not greater than 4 is formed on a drain line, thus forming the counter electrode on the insulating film to cover the drain line.
