A robot has a movable section and a gripping section such as a hand attached to a front end of the movable section. The gripping section is configured to grip a portion of the workpiece, which is different from a part of the workpiece held by the fixing jig, during machining of the workpiece by a machine tool. By holding the workpiece by using the robot during the machining of the workpiece, the workpiece can be prevented from being deformed by a machining reaction force, whereby vibration generated during the machining can be limited.
