Patent number: 6578684Abstract: A driving force transmission device transmits driving force between an outer case made of magnetic substance and inner shaft. A main clutch mechanism, an electromagnetic type pilot clutch mechanism and cam mechanism are arranged between the outer case and inner shaft. The main clutch mechanism transmits driving force between the outer case and inner shaft. The pilot clutch mechanism controls operation of the main clutch mechanism and comprises an electromagnet, an armature and a friction clutch. The cam mechanism amplifies output of the pilot clutch mechanism and transmits amplified output to the main clutch mechanism. The driving force transmission device further comprises a first regulation member and/or a second regulating member. Patent number: 5063738Abstract: A pressure generation and responsive mechanism is provided wherein several blade members bodily movable with a first member is received within a space formed in a second member. The second member provides a first flat end surface in friction engagement with the blade members, and an actuation piston, by itself or in cooperation with the second member, provides a second flat end surface in friction engagement with the other ends of the blade members. Silicon oil is filled within several space sections defined by the first and second flat end surfaces and the blade members. When the first member is moved relative to the second member, the blade members compulsorily displaces the silicon oil within the several space sections against friction resistance with the first and second flat end surfaces. Thus, a pressure is generated within each of the several space sections to actuate the actuation piston.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1988Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Assignee: Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroaki Asano, Masaji Yamamoto

Patent number: 5056640Abstract: A torque transmission device is provided wherein a rotary housing is connected to one of front and rear drive shafts which respectively drive front and rear axles of a four-wheel drive vehicle, while a rotary shaft coaxially carried by the rotary housing is connected to the other of the front and rear drive shafts. The housing receives therein a multiple disc clutch device for transmitting rotational power between the housing and the shaft through friction engagement between alternately arranged outer and inner clutch discs which are respectively rotatable bodily with the housing and the shaft. The housing also receives an axially movable piston to press the clutch discs for friction engagement. An end wall of the housing or an end cap secured thereto and a facing end surface of the piston define an axially narrow circular chamber, within which a rotor with a plurality of radially extending blade portions provided with a pair of slanted surfaces is received to be rotated by the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1989Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignees: Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masaji Yamamoto, Shigeo Tanooka, Toshifumi Sakai, Nobunao Morishita

Patent number: 5012908Abstract: A control coupling for torque transmission between a pair of rotary members coaxially arranged for relative rotation, which includes a cylindrical casing mounted on one of the rotary members for rotation therewith, a friction clutch assembled within the casing, a piston axially slidably coupled within the casing for rotation therewith and being in engagement with the friction clutch, an end wall member coupled with the casing for rotation therewith and spaced from the piston to form a fluid chamber filled with an amount of viscous fluid, and a rotor disposed in the fluid chamber and mounted on the other rotary member for rotation therewith. The rotor has a plurality of radial blades extending radially outwardly therefrom and being disposed between the piston and the end wall member.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1990Date of Patent: May 7, 1991Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Katsuyuki Kobayashi, Masaki Inui, Satoshi Ashida, Keiichi Nakamura, Masaji Yamamoto

Patent number: 5007885Abstract: A driving torque transmitting device which has a differential case to which driving torque of an engine is transmitted. Within the differential case, a pair of side gears meshed with pinion gears are disposed around right and left axle shafts so as to be axially slidable thereon. Two annular pistons are disposed between the side gears and end walls of the differential case in contact with the side gears so as to be rotatable with and axially slidable on the differential case to form two annular closed actuating chambers with the end walls of the differential case. Within the closed actuating chambers are disposed two blade plates so as to rotate respectively with the two axle shafts whereby the actuating chambers are divided into two spaces. These two spaces are charged with high-viscosity oil.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masaji Yamamoto, Shigeo Tanooka, Toshifumi Sakai

Patent number: 4817751Abstract: A driving free distribution transmission for use with a vehicle with fourwheel drive. The vehicle has first and second drive shafts which are connected with the front and rear wheels, respectively. The transmission has a hydraulic clutch, a differential pump, a bias spring, and a selector valve. The clutch has outer and inner plates which are caused to frictionally engage with each other to transmit rotary power between the two drive shafts. The pump produces a hydraulic pressure corresponding to the difference between the rotating speeds of the drive shafts. The oil delivered by the pump is forced into a reservoir through a first passage in which a restrictor is formed. A second passage connects the pump with an oil chamber in the clutch. A third passage connects the oil chamber with the reservoir without via the restrictor. The spring always presses the outer and inner plates towards each other.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1988Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroaki Asano, Keiichi Nakamura, Masaji Yamamoto, Shigeo Tanooka, Toshifumi Sakai
