  • Patent number: 6419267
Abstract: There is provided an air bag device of the present invention which allows generation of suitable reaction force which corresponds to a physical constitution of a vehicle occupant abutting against an air bag body. In the air bag device, a region of an outer air bag body pressed by the vehicle occupant abuts an inner air bag body and closes vent holes formed in the inner air bag body. Therefore, a quantity of gas flowing from the inner air bag body into a space formed between the outer air bag body and the inner air bag body can be controlled. Accordingly, the quantity of gas flowing through the vent holes into the space and further escaping from the air bag body via vent holes formed in the outer air bag body can be adjusted in accordance with a physical constitution of the vehicle occupant abutting against the air bag body.

  • Patent number: 5974512
Abstract: A system for saving contents of a plurality of registers into a memory. The system has a bit sequence, wherein the value of each individual bit of the bit sequence is set to indicate a modification status of a corresponding register; and control means for saving contents of each of the registers indicated to have been modified at a predetermined address of the memory and for revising the predetermined address. In a preferred implementation, the system saves contents of a plurality of registers into a first area of a memory and for restores contents of the plurality of registers with contents previously saved in a second area of the memory.

  • Patent number: 5392024
Abstract: A collision detection system utilizing a set of primary sensors and a secondary sensor. When a sufficient collision load is applied to the sensors, the sensors output a signal. The primary sensors are constructed to be more sensitive than the secondary sensor. Based on the outputs of the primary and secondary sensors, a control unit detects the collision. Upon detecting the collision, the control unit outputs a collision detection signal which activates a protection device, such as an air bag.

  • Patent number: 5338062
Abstract: A side collision sensor system for a side airbag apparatus for inflating an airbag between a side door or inner side wall and a passenger of a vehicle, when a transverse collision is detected, to protect the passenger against a secondary collision. The side collision sensor system comprises: a side collision sensor arranged on the side of a vehicle body for outputting a collision detection signal, if it is compressed by a force of a predetermined or higher strength; and an acceleration sensor attached to an arbitrary portion of the vehicle body for outputting a collision detection signal if an acceleration applied sideways to the vehicle body has a predetermined or higher level. The side airbag is inflated if at least one of the side collision sensor and the acceleration sensor outputs its collision detection signal.

  • Patent number: 4458921
Abstract: A seat belt tensioning device provided with a cylinder attached to the room of a vehicle, a piston slidably inserted into the cylinder, a rod of which one end is connected to the piston within the cylinder and of which the other end is connected to a seat belt outside of the cylinder through a joint member, and a piston operating means for moving the piston in one direction at an urgent time, is disclosed. The device is further provided with a piston operating energy absorbing member which is disposed between the joint member and the opposed end wall of the cylinder. When the piston moves to its limit stroke, the piston operating energy absorbing member is strongly sandwiched by the joint member and the end wall of the cylinder and is deformed by a predetermined load applied thereto to absorb the piston operating energy.

  • Patent number: 4236753
Abstract: A seat reclining mechanism, for example for vehicle seats, is of the kind having first and second arms for attachment to portions of a seat. Each arm has a respective internal gear secured to it, and the gears are coaxial and the arms can rotate mutually about a pivot. An external gear is slidable axially on the pivot for movement into engagement with one or the other or both of the internal gears to lock them together. The improvement of the invention is an arrangement for shifting the external gear axially into and out of engagement with the internal gears. The arrangement has a plurality of operation elements secured on and extending axially from the external gear, and an axially acting cam engaging the operation elements for shifting them and the external gear axially of the pivot. The cam may be a rotary cam or a linearly slidable cam.
