  • Patent number: 6104865
Abstract: A video signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus which is capable of recording and/or reproducing both high definition and standard television signals is disclosed. Accordingly, video signals of two systems such as the high definition and standard television signals can be recorded and/or reproduced by a single apparatus. The standard television signal is reproduced as a video signal having a high picture quality in a format similar to that of the high definition television signal. Even if the video signal to be recorded is the standard television signal, a reproduced picture having a higher picture quality than that of the standard television signal and having no distortion due to a difference in aspect ratios between the high definition and standard television signals can be provided.

  • Patent number: 5726702
Abstract: A television signal receiving apparatus which can read program information relevant to a television program from an optical disk medium, interlocked with the television program and can reproduce and display the read program information. Program information (broadcasting information including program names, broadcasting channel names and broadcasting dates and times and appendant information relevant to the contents of the programs) relevant to the television programs to be displayed by the television receiver/display is recorded in the optical disk medium. When a user instructs a display of the program information by the selection and decision input unit, the television control unit transmits the display request and time information from the clock apparatus to the control unit of the optical disk unit. The control unit makes the appendant information to be reproduced from the optical disk medium, by using the broadcasting channel name and the time information as retrieval information.

  • Patent number: 5699360
Abstract: Digitally-compressed audio and image data of a plurality of programs (logical channels) are distributed and superimposed for every horizontal synchronizing signal period together with identification information of each of the programs in place of a luminance signal of an analog video signal of each of physical channels. Each of the physical channels is superimposed in its frequency and distributed from a signal transmission facility of a broadcasting station. At the receiving side, a desired physical analog channel is tuned and the compressed digital audio and image data superimposed on the tuned video signal are selected and taken as desired logical channel data in reference to program identification information, and the compressed digital audio and image data are decoded to obtain their original audio and moving images.

  • Patent number: 5615019
Abstract: A television apparatus with a built-in optical disk device for reproducing a video signal recorded on an optical disk to make a display. By disposing the optical disk device apart from the high voltage generating section of the television apparatus and an anode electrode of a cathode-ray tube and shielding the optical disk device, influence of dust and noise is reduced. Simultaneously, by reading out a video signal and information concerning the video signal, and optimally controlling video display of the video signal, setting is conducted so as to make flicker at the time of still picture display and block noise and mosquito noise at the time of motion picture display inconspicuous. Video images supplied from the optical disk are thus displayed with a satisfactory quality.

  • Patent number: 5483466
Abstract: A mail reception/display control method which permits a user on a reception side to be informed the reception of an item of mail immediately upon reception of the mail even during the course of another job, and to ascertain the content of the received mail with ease upon mail reception. A mail reception detection unit included in each of the client terminals monitors the mail reception from any other client. When the mail reception has been detected, a mail attribute discrimination unit decides whether or not the received mail is to be transferred from a server to that particular client. When the mail transfer is required, a mail transfer unit transfers the mail from the server to the particular client. Subsequently, a mail reception display unit disposed at the client on the reception side presents a display to the effect that the mail has been received. Further, when the user has made a reply of confirmation to the display of the mail reception, a mail replay unit replays the received mail.

  • Patent number: 5280396
Abstract: An apparatus for correcting a time base of a video signal includes a first memory having a capacity of one line of a video signal and a second memory having a capacity of N lines of the video signal connected to the first memory. A video signal is written in the first memory according to a first control signal generated based on synchronizing information in the video signal and first clock pulses synchronized with the synchronizing information, the video signal written in the first memory is read from the first memory and written in the second memory according to a second control signal generated based on second clock pulses, and the video signal written in the second memory is read from the second memory based on a reference signal generated based on the second clock pulses.

  • Patent number: 5239421
Abstract: A method of reproducing video signals from a magnetic recording medium like a magnetic tape for a VTR to obtain high-quality video pictures even when dropouts occur in the medium, which includes the steps of separating synchronizing information from the video signals reproduced from the magnetic recording medium, detecting a dropout duration from the reproduced video signals, generating complete synchronizing information during a whole period of writing the signals in image information memories by compensating lost synchronizing information during the dropout, generating write address signals on the basis of the generated synchronizing information, writing reproduced video signals the memories on the basis of the generated write address signals while no dropout occurs, and leaving unchanged previously written video signals while a dropout occurs. According to an apparatus implementing the above method, reproduced pictures of high quality are obtained without jitters and skews due to dropouts.

  • Patent number: 4873582
Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic recording-playback apparatus suitable for recording and reproducing a signal including a broad-band composite video signal and a method therefor. The broad-band signal is time-sliced into signals in two channels, and each divided signal is expanded on the time axis so that it is converted into a lower-band signal before being recorded on a magnetic tape. In the time axis expansion process, the vertical blanking signal and/or horizontal blanking signal is not expanded, whereby the divided video signals have a still lower frequency band.
