  • Publication number: 20150184076
Abstract: A liquid crystal composition exhibits a positive dielectric anisotropy and sufficiently low viscosity without decreasing or increasing refractive index anisotropy or nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature, and does not cause display failures. The liquid crystal composition contains one or more compounds selected from compounds represented by general formula (LC0) and one or more compounds selected from a group of compounds represented by general formula (LC1) to general formula (LC5), in which the liquid crystal composition contains one or more compounds in which at least one of A01, A02, and A11 to A42 in general formulae (LC0) to (LC4) represents a tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl group.

  • Publication number: 20150159086
Abstract: The nematic liquid crystal composition according to the present invention is used for, for example, producing a liquid crystal display element used in TN mode, OCB mode, ECB mode, IPS mode, or VA-IPS mode. The liquid crystal composition has a positive dielectric anisotropy and allows reductions in refractive-index anisotropy and nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature and an increase in the lower limit temperature of a nematic phase to be suppressed. As a result, the liquid crystal composition has a sufficiently low viscosity without deteriorating the temperature range of a nematic phase. The liquid crystal composition allows high-speed response and high display quality to be realized, suppresses faulty display, and is suitably used as a practical liquid crystal composition.

  • Patent number: 9039929
Abstract: A nematic liquid crystal composition of the present invention is used in liquid crystal display devices of the TN mode, OCB mode, ECB mode, IPS mode, or VA-IPS mode. The liquid crystal composition has positive dielectric anisotropy. Since the refractive index anisotropy and the nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase transition temperature are decreased and the increase in the lower limit temperature of the nematic phase is suppressed, the viscosity of the liquid crystal composition is sufficiently low without degrading the nematic phase temperature range. The liquid crystal composition also offers excellent features such as high-speed response, good display quality, and less display failures and is thus suitable as a practical liquid crystal composition.

  • Publication number: 20150124205
Abstract: The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that allows a reduction in a voltage holding ratio (VHR) of a liquid crystal layer and an increase in an ion density (ID) in the liquid crystal layer to be suppressed and thereby addresses issues of faulty display such as white missing pixels, alignment inconsistencies, and burn-in. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention, having a feature of suppressing the reduction in a voltage holding ratio (VHR) and the increase in an ion density (ID) in a liquid crystal layer and thereby suppressing occurrence of faulty display such as burn-in, is particularly useful as VA-mode and PSVA-mode liquid crystal display devices for active-matrix driving and may be used for liquid crystal display devices such as a liquid crystal TV, a monitor, a mobile phone, and a smart phone.

  • Publication number: 20150087847
Abstract: There is provided a compound having a good miscibility with another liquid crystal compound and having a combination of a low viscosity (?), high storage stability, and high T?i even after being used to produce a liquid crystal composition. In particular, it is a compound having a 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure is provided. Since the compound having a 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure is highly miscible with another liquid crystal compound, using the compound having a 2-fluorophenyloxymethane structure as a component of a liquid crystal composition enables a production of a liquid crystal composition which exhibits a liquid crystal phase at low viscosity and in a wide temperature range and which has a high storage stability and enables production of a liquid crystal display device which responds fast and which has excellent display characteristics.
