  • Patent number: 5528273
Abstract: A video printer includes a chassis, a platen rotatably mounted on the chassis, a printing head carried by the chassis so as to be moved between a pressure-contact position in which the printing head is pressure-contacted with the platen and a standby position in which the printing head is spaced apart from the platen, a roll for pressure-contacting a transfer sheet against the platen, and a cutter provided at a position spaced apart from the printing head and proximate to the sheet exit opening. The transfer sheet is provided in a sheet guide system through a space between the platen and the printing head as far as a sheet exit opening. The printing head is moved to the pressure-contact position during printing operation to the standby position during non-printing operation. When printing an image on the transfer sheet, the transfer sheet is rewound by a distance less than a distance between the printing head and the cutter for effective utilization of the transfer sheet.

The transfer sheet is provided in a sheet guide system through a space between the platen and the printing head as far as a sheet exit opening. The printing head is moved to the pressure-contact position during printing time and to the standby position during non-printing time. When printing an image on the transfer sheet, the transfer sheet is rewound by a distance less than a distance between the printing head and the cutter for effective utilization of the transfer sheet.

  • Patent number: 5230576
Abstract: A printer is provided which has an openable front panel. This front panel is opened to load printing paper into a paper tray which is invisibly located behind the front panel. The paper tray is provided in a mechanical sub-chassis movably disposed within a mechanical main chassis of the printer. The sub-chassis is laterally slidable relative to the main chassis via a pair of guide rails and is rotatable to open the front panel via a pair of arm plate to expose the paper tray outside of the printer body. The arm plates are attached to a drive shaft supported by the main chassis so as to allow slight relative displacement therebetween to cancel assembly error. According to rotation of the drive shaft, the both arm plates swing synchronously.

  • Patent number: 5014073
Abstract: A printer is provided which includes a thermal head serving first, second, and third operation modes. In the first operation mode, the thermal head is separate from the platen roller so as to allow a new sheet of printing paper to be inserted, from a roll, for example. In the second operation mode, the thermal head is pressed against the platen roller to via the sheet of printing paper to print an image thereon. In the third operation mode, the thermal head contacts with the platen roller, but under only the slight pressure exerted by its own weight to secure the printed paper sheet to cut it into a predetermined size. The provision of the third operation mode wherein little head pressure is exerted on the platen roller also prevents compression set from occurring on the platen roller.

  • Patent number: 4848945
Abstract: A printer comprises a stationary chassis and a movable chassis mounted on the stationary chassis. A platen is mounted on the movable chassis at the front portion thereof. On the other hand, a printer head is mounted on the stationary chassis at the front portion thereof. The printer head opposes the platen when the movable chassis is placed in operating position. The printer head is associatred with an actuator which moves the printer head toward and away from the platen. The actuator normally holds the printer head away from the platen and is responsivel to rotation of the platen to bias the printer head to resiliently contact the platen.

  • Patent number: 4679953
Abstract: In a paper feeding and ejecting device for a printing apparatus, a sheet of paper is fed by a paper feeding roller from the top of a stack of paper sheets in a magazine through a feeding guide to a gripping assembly on the peripheral surface of a platen which is rotated in one direction during printing and in the opposite direction during ejecting of a printed sheet through an ejecting guide to ejecting rollers. The feeding roller and the ejecting rollers are driven by a single reversible drive motor at suitable times during the operating cycle. The feeding guide and the ejecting guide are separated from each other at the platen so that the feeding of a sheet to the platen will not interfere with the ejecting of a printed sheet. At the completion of each operating cycle, the feeding roller is accurately located at a standby position without requiring the use of a control sensor therefor.
