Abstract: An information recording and reproducing apparatus which allows a user to easily grasp the progress status of a dubbing process when video data is dubbed from a recording medium to other recording medium and which also clearly indicates that the dubbing process is running. Here, in a screen display while video data is dubbed to other recording medium, the image of the video data portion currently being dubbed is thumbnailed. Furthermore, the displayed thumbnail is switched at each scene or at predetermined time intervals, thereby facilitating a check on the progress status of the dubbing process and also allowing for confirmation that the dubbing process is running.
