  • Patent number: 5074255
Abstract: A V-shaped engine has an inlet passage and an outlet passage for coolant. The inlet passage for introducing coolant to a water pump mounted to a front face of a cylinder block of the engine is arranged vertically in a space between a right bank and a left bank. The outlet passage is so arranged as to pass between a timing belt idler provided forwardly of the space between the right bank and the left bank and the inlet passage. This arrangement of the inlet passage and the outlet passage enables the V-shaped engine to be made compact.

  • Patent number: 5040494
Abstract: A cooling apparatus for a V-type internal combustion engine has a water pump disposed at a central portion of a front end surface of an engine cylinder block. A cooling water inlet passage, provided between the radiator and water pump for introducing cooling water into the water pump, includes an external pipe extending along the front end of the engine cylinder block and turning into a V-shaped space defined by and between elongated first and second cylinder banks set at an angle relative to each other and an internal passageway formed in the cylinder block. The internal passageway has one end communicated with the water pump and its other end opening to the bottom of the V-shaped space and connected to the external pipe.

  • Patent number: 5027762
Abstract: A lubrication system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine has a valve drive mechanism equipped with a row of hydraulic valve lash adjusters installed in a cylinder head of an engine block of the engine and a camshaft with journals which is disposed over the cylinder head and is attached, at one end thereof, with a camshaft pulley coupled to a crankshaft pulley by a belt. The lubrication system includes a main oil gallery extending lengthwise in the engine body, a lash adjuster oil gallery formed in the cylinder head and extending along the row of hydraylic valve lash adjusters, and a camshaft oil gallery formed in the cylinder head and extending parallel to the lash adjuster oil gallery. The main oil gallery is connected independently to one end of the camshaft oil gallery adjacent the camshaft pulley and to one end of the lash adjuster oil gallery remote from the camshaft pulley so as to supply them with pressurized oil, fed by an oil pump, in opposite direction.
