    Abstract: A water pump includes a body, a fixing member to which the body is fixed hermetically via a gasket, and an impeller which is fixed to an end part of a shaft supported rotatably by the body and housed in a vortex chamber formed in the body or in the fixing member. Further, the impeller has a circular plate into which the end part of the shaft is inserted and a plurality of blades radially provided on the circular plate at one side facing the fixing member or the other side facing the body and project from the circular plate to the fixing member side or the body side. In the water pump, the gasket has an intermediate plate with high rigidity and metal gaskets disposed between the intermediate plate and the body, and between the intermediate plate and the fixing member for sealing. The intermediate plate extends in radial direction to keep a predetermined axial distance between an inner peripheral portion of the intermediate plate and an end part of the blades facing to the fixing member or to the body.

    Abstract: A supporting structure of bearings incorporates a housing, a shaft on which a rotor is fixed, a first ball bearing supported on the housing supporting one side of the shaft and having an outer and inner race, a second ball bearing supported on the housing supporting the other side of the shaft and having an outer and an inner race, an elastic member for urging the outer race of the second ball bearing in the axial direction, and a ring spacer having at least one radial projecting portion disposed between the elastic member and the outer race of the second ball bearing. The outer race and the inner race of the first ball bearing are fixed to the housing and the shaft. The outer race of the second ball bearing is slidably mounted to the housing, while the inner race of the second ball bearing is fixed to the shaft. The ring spacer also includes an axial groove formed on the housing for receiving the radial projecting portion whereby the radial projecting portion slides along the axial groove.

    Abstract: A mechanical supercharger has a by-pass structure in the form of a valve body unitarily fixed to the supercharger housing at an end thereof opposite the drive gears for synchronously rotating the rotor shafts. The valve body contains a by-pass passage which is normally closed by a valve and which fluidically connects the outlet and the inlet of the compressor for permitting compressed gas to return to the inlet. The valve is slidably mounted on a shaft and is normally biased into the closed position by a spring, so that the valve will open the by-pass when the compressed gas pressure exceeds the spring force. The shaft itself is mounted to a diaphragm mechanism which can retract the shaft and open the valve in response to a pressure signal to the valve when supercharging is not necessary. Engine wear and fuel consumption are thus improved.
