  • Publication number: 20210155439
Abstract: A medium feeding apparatus capable of switching between a first feeding mode and a second feeding mode, in which in the first feeding mode, when a first detection section positioned downstream of a feeding roller in a medium feeding direction detects passage of a trailing end of a preceding medium in a feeding standby state in which driving of the feeding roller that feeds the medium is stopped, starting the driving of the feeding roller to perform feeding of a succeeding medium, and in the second feeding mode, when a second detection section positioned downstream of the first detection section in the medium feeding direction detects the passage of the trailing end of the preceding medium in the feeding standby state, starting the driving of the feeding roller to perform the feeding of the succeeding medium.

  • Publication number: 20210099592
Abstract: A medium feeding apparatus includes a first feed roller, a second feed roller, a first separating roller, and a second separating roller. The medium feeding apparatus further includes a first curve forming portion that forms, in a medium, a curve in a width direction. The first curve forming portion is in contact with a medium at a portion upstream of a nip position between the feed rollers and the separating rollers in the feeding direction and at a portion between the first separating roller and the second separating roller in the width direction and a state in which the portion in contact with the medium is, with respect to the outer circumferential surfaces of the feed rollers, positioned in a rotation center direction of the feed rollers is maintained.

  • Publication number: 20210029263
Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a feeding roller configured to feed a document, a separation roller configured to pinch the document with the feeding roller at a nipping position for separation, a first sending roller located downstream of the feeding roller and configured to send the document downstream, a read sensor located downstream of the first sending roller and configured to read the document, and a second sending roller located downstream of the read sensor and configured to send the document downstream. A guide surface is disposed downstream of the nipping position and below a common tangent line to the first sending roller and the second sending roller. The guide surface is positioned to come in contact with a front end of the document sent downward from the nipping position beyond the common tangent line to guide the document upward toward the common tangent line.

  • Patent number: 10737892
Abstract: A medium feeding device includes a medium placement portion on which a bunch of media is placed, a feed roller that feeds a lowermost medium of the bunch of media placed on the medium placement portion, a separation roller that is provided at a position facing the feed roller and separates a medium from the bunch of media, and a plurality of restricting portions that are provided on an upstream side of a nip position between the separation roller and the feed roller at an interval in a medium width direction which is a direction intersecting a medium feeding direction and come into contact with leading ends of upper media of the bunch of media excluding at least the lowermost medium such that the leading ends are restricted from coming into contact with the separation roller regardless of whether the separation roller is deformed or not.

  • Patent number: 10662012
Abstract: A medium feeding device includes an imaging unit which images a medium tip end portion from a position of facing a face of the medium on a downstream side of a nipping position of the medium using a feeding unit and a separating unit; and a determining unit which determines whether or not there is transport disorder by evaluating a state of a boundary between a path member which forms a medium transport path and a medium tip end from image data obtained by the imaging unit, in which the determining unit sets a rectangular determining region including at least a part of the boundary with respect to the image data, and determines whether or not there is transport disorder based on a length of a boundary in the determining region.

  • Publication number: 20200071100
Abstract: A medium feeding apparatus includes a feed roller that feeds media. A separation roller nips the media together with the feed roller to separate it and is rotated in a first direction to feed the media. A motor applies driving torque to the separation roller in a second direction opposite to the first direction. A torque limiter, when rotation torque applied to the separation roller in the first direction exceeds a preset upper torque limit, causes the separation roller to rotate at idle in the first direction independently of the driving torque. During feeding operations, including feeding of first and second media, a controller that controls the motor provides a break period in which the motor is not driven. The break period contains the timing when a rear edge of the first medium leaves a nip position between the feeding and separation rollers.
