Publication number: 20040222055Abstract: The present invention provides an anti-squeal shim for use in a disc brake comprising a pressing member for pressing a brake pad toward a disc rotor and a back plate of the brake pad in a disc brake, wherein the anti-squeal shim comprises a plated steel plate and a rubber layer, wherein the rubber layer is fixed on at least one side thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2004Publication date: November 11, 2004Applicant: Nichias CorporationInventors: Takahiro Niwa, Masaki Yoshihara, Junichi Kondoh, Tadashi Arai

Publication number: 20040188190Abstract: In order to provide a shim structure capable of controlling the generation of a voltage by the difference in the standard electrode potentials specific to metals between an aluminum caliper and a metal plate, the shim structure abutting against the backing plate of a friction material, which forms a disc pad, is constituted by providing rubber layers on both sides of an aluminum alloy plate. Since the aluminum alloy plate is used for the metal plate constituting the shim structure, even when a steel caliper is replaced with the aluminum caliper, the generation of the voltage generated between metals is controlled to a lesser degree, thereby preventing corrosion of the caliper arising therefrom.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2004Publication date: September 30, 2004Inventors: Takahiro Niwa, Masaki Yoshihara, Junichi Kondoh, Tadashi Arai

Publication number: 20020189910Abstract: A vibration damping shim structure is provided, which not only can sufficiently exert vibration damping effect in a wide range of temperatures, but also can prevent a squeal phenomenon particularly in low temperatures.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 21, 2002Publication date: December 19, 2002Inventors: Kunihiko Yano, Takahiro Niwa, Masaki Yoshihara, Tadashi Arai

Patent number: 6481545Abstract: A vibration damping shim structure is provided, which not only can sufficiently exert vibration damping effect in a wide range of temperatures, but also can prevent a squeal phenomenon particularly in low temperatures. A rubber coating layer a1 is formed on one side of a first constraint plate a2 of a metallic plate and a second constraint plate a4 is stuck to the other side of the first constraint plate a2 with a adhesive layer a3 placed in-between. The ratio of the thickness of the first constraint plate a2 to a sum total of the thickness of the back plate b1 forming a disc brake B and the second constraint plate a4 is taken as within 0.1 to 0.2, and the second constraint plate a4 is used so as to be brought into contact with the back plate b1.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2002Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Nichias CorporationInventors: Kunihiko Yano, Takahiro Niwa, Masaki Yoshihara, Tadashi Arai

Patent number: 6213257Abstract: A squeak preventing shim for a disk brake for an automobile has a squeak preventing effect, even if no lubricant is used, and also prevents decreased durability due to buckling, flow, etc. A shim construction is formed with a plurality of grooves or recesses in rubber layers 2 disposed on two surfaces of a metal plate in a rubber coated member. Owing to these grooves or recesses, apparent transversal elastic modulus of the rubber layers is lowered and a squeak preventing effect due to vibration in a parallel direction to the shim can be obtained, even if no lubricant is used. Further, since longitudinal elastic modulus does not vary much, the shim construction is durable.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1998Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: Nichias CorporationInventors: Kunihiko Yano, Takahiro Niwa, Masaki Yoshihara

Patent number: 5762166Abstract: In order to provide a shim for preventing brake squeal in a disk brake, which can decrease high frequency noise (squealing phenomena) produced at braking, a rubber coated metal, in which a rubber layer is disposed on one surface of a metal plate is used and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer is disposed directly on the other surface of the metal plate, the pressure sensitive adhesive layer may include a primer layer on the other surface of the metal plate. The pressure sensitive adhesive layer of this shim structure serves as an adhesive portion to be stuck to a backplate of a disk brake pad. Since the pressure sensitive adhesive layer is disposed on the metal plate, the pressure sensitive adhesive layer is never peeled off from the rubber coated metal and its damping action (brake squeal preventing action) is maintained.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Nichias CorporationInventors: Kunihiko Yano, Takahiro Niwa, Seiji Sakurada, Masaki Yoshihara
