    Abstract: The present invention provides a paste type cadmium anode for alkali storage batteries which comprises an electrically conductive core material, an active material layer mainly composed of cadmium compounds and coated on the core material, an electrically conductive porous layer mainly composed of metallic nickel and provided on the surface of the active material layer, and an organic compound present between the active material layer mainly composed of cadmium compounds and the electrically conductive porous layer mainly composed of metallic nickel. This anode is improved in a cycle life owing to improvement in oxygen gas absorption and prevention of distortion of electrode plate.A method for making the anode is also provided.
