  • Patent number: 5734809
Abstract: A control apparatus for a copier capable of transferring data from a non-volatile memory thereof to a computer or similar external data processing equipment, allowing the data in the memory to be rewritten from the outside, and in the event of replacement of a control board loaded with the memory allowing the data to be transferred from the memory of the old control board to a non-volatile memory of a new control board with accuracy and reliability. Data are transferred from the old control board to a new control board via serial communication controllers which are provided on the individual control boards. A communication unit is also provided on the control board so that the content of the non-volatile memory may be transferred to the external data processing equipment or rewritten by the latter.

  • Patent number: 5722029
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, the size of sheets (ordinary sheets) set on any tray not set as a tab tray by tab tray setting member is determined by ordinary sheet size sensing member on the basis of the dimension in the sheet feed direction and the dimension in the direction (widthwise) perpendicular to the above direction. On the other hand, the size of sheets (sheets with tabs) set on a tray set as a tab tray is determined by tab sheet size sensing member on the basis only of the dimension in the widthwise direction. If the size of the sheets of the tab tray cannot be determined on the basis only of the above dimension, the size set beforehand is selected. With this configuration, the apparatus is capable of detecting the sizes of various kinds of tab sheets with accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5263698
Abstract: A binding device associated with an image forming apparatus for binding a stack of recording sheets each carrying an image formed by the image forming apparatus. After a cover sheet at least twice as large in size as the recording sheets has been laid on the stack, a staple or staples are driven into the cover sheet and underlying recording sheets to staple them together. Subsequently, the cover sheet is folded at substantially the center thereof in such a manner as to wrap the stapled stack. Binding means is located at the right-hand side or the left-hand side and capable of binding the stack at the right binding margin or the left binding margin, as desired by rotating the image formed on a sheet 180 degrees.

  • Patent number: 5131079
Abstract: A method controls a display for a copying machine including a device having two-dimensional dot displaying device in which displaying layers for at least two colors of red and green are provided and capable of displaying at least four colors red, green, white, and black by combining the displaying layers. The method is made up of the steps of providing storing device including a memory space which corresponds to a display of the dot displaying device and in which addresses are sequentially assigned. The system then calculates display information of one-dimensional absolute address position information in response to display information in which coordinate information is made into two-dimensional coordinate information. This display information is stored in the storing device, and then supplied to the displaying device so as to be displayed. The display device is primarily a dot type device.

  • Patent number: 4975747
Abstract: An image density control for an electrophotographic copier uses a first and a second reference density pattern having a comparatively low and a comparatively high reference density, respectively. After latent images of the first and second reference density patterns have been formed on a photoconductive element, a potential sensor senses their potentials. In response to the sensed potentials, the potentials of the latent images are set at their predetermined target value. These target values are variable as desired.

  • Patent number: 4860054
Abstract: A control system for an electrophotographic copier of the type using a photoconductive element having a seam varies the position for starting counting timing pulses, which are adapted to control the operations of various units or electrical loads of the copier, in dependence upon the copy mode. The control system reduces the period of time necessary for the first copy to be produced by the copier.
