The controller operates to perform a process for mapping an actual device address corresponding to a virtual device address, in accordance with a specification of the actual device to be mounted or unmounted to correspond to the virtual device, and storing and retaining mapping information obtained from the mapping in a first table. The controller also performs data input/output process for receiving, an access request for data input/output in which said virtual device address is specified, obtaining the actual device address mapped to said specified virtual device address in said first table, and accessing the actual device by said obtained actual device address.

    Abstract: An object of the present invention is to integrally manage disk storage apparatuses through virtualization. Some physical storage apparatuses 14 connected to a host computer 10 via a communication network 12 are virtualized with a virtual switch 18, a control unit 20, and a virtual device 22. The physical storage apparatus specifies a command when receiving the command from the host computer 10, and accesses, if the command access has been made to its own physical storage apparatus, a real disk via the virtual control unit 20 and virtual device 22, and executes I/O processing. If the command access is not made to its own physical storage apparatus, the physical storage apparatus 14 directs the command to the transmission target via the virtual switch 18. The physical storage apparatuses 14 are integrally managed according to the command in the above described manner.

    Abstract: A technique is provided in which, even when the number of devices and device addresses handled in the storage apparatus side increases, it is possible to access all the devices and save used resources by simple control of the configuration definition information without adding the device addresses retained on the host side. The host side handles a virtual device for an access to an actual device handled on a storage apparatus side to retain a virtual device address, specifies an actual device to be mounted to the virtual device, and makes an access for data input/output by the virtual device address. A CHA of a controller maps an actual device address to a virtual device address and retains it in a table in a SM, and when receiving the access by the virtual device address, obtains the corresponding actual device address from the table to access the actual device.
