  • Patent number: 5893896
Abstract: In apparatus and method for stability controlling a vehicular attitude for a vehicle, a slip angle (BETA) of a vehicle body to a vehicular forwarding direction is derived on the basis of a detected yaw rate, a derived vehicle body speed, and a detected lateral acceleration acted upon the vehicle body, a controller determines whether an oversteer condition occurs and/or determined whether an understeer condition occurs, and a braking liquid pressure from a control purpose liquid pressure source is supplied through one of two braking pressure distribution conduits so as to give a braking force to be applied to one of front left and right road wheels which is directed to suppress a yaw moment when the oversteer condition occurs.

  • Patent number: 5549093
Abstract: An engine shifts to a split cylinder operation to reduce a wheel slip of driving wheels of an automotive vehicle. The split cylinder operation is effected on mixture free from mixture enrichment correction and during the split cylinder operation, each of the engine cylinders is disabled at intervals. Thus, the cylinder heat is distributed evenly over the whole engine cylinders during the split cylinder operation.

  • Patent number: 5249558
Abstract: An idle speed control system for an automotive internal combustion engine having an intake air passageway through which intake air flow to be inducted into engine cylinders. The idle speed control system is comprised of an auxiliary air control valve operatively disposed in an auxiliary air passage which is connected with the intake air passageway in a manner to bypass a throttle valve. The amount of air flowing through the auxiliary air passage is regulated by controlling the opening degree of the auxiliary air control valve under an idle operating condition in order to control idle speed. The control of the auxiliary air control valve opening degree is accomplished in accordance with a difference between model and actual torques of a power output shaft of the engine. The model torque is produced in time series in accordance with a target idle speed by using a model.

  • Patent number: 5172676
Abstract: Disclosed is an air-fuel ratio control apparatus in an internal combustion engine using different kinds of fuels, such as gasoline and an alcohol, interchangeably or together in a mixed state, wherein at the stationary driving, the integration constant for setting the air-fuel ratio feedback correction coefficient at the air-fuel feedback control is set according to the concentration of the basic fuel such as the alcohol, and at the transient driving, the integration constant is set at a value larger than the value set at the stationary driving. If this structure is adopted, the deflection of the air-fuel ratio at the stationary driving is kept constant irrespectively of the fuel concentration and high exhaust gas-purging performances can be maintained, and at the transient driving, a good response characteristic can be maintained to control excessive thickening or thinning of the air-fuel ratio, and good transient driving performances and high exhaust gas-purging performances can be maintained.

  • Patent number: 4989570
Abstract: A fail-detection system is designed for detecting failure of a fuel concentration sensor for monitoring concentration of one of a plurality of different types of fuels which are blended to be supplied to an internal combustion engine, which fuel concentration sensor varies output signal level depending upon the monitored fuel concentration in the blended fuels. The system comprises first means for receiving the output signal from the fuel concentration sensor for providing a monitored data associated with monitored fuel concentration, second means for providing a reference data representative of normal range of the value of the monitored data, and third means for comparing the monitored data with the reference data for detecting abnormality of the fuel concentration sensor when the monitored data is out of a predetermined relationship with the reference data.
