The mechanism shifts a rack position in a fuel-decrease direction in a cold temperature condition, and switches the rack position to a normal position in a normal temperature condition. A bottom-equipped hopper having side walls on both sides of the feed conveyor in the transverse direction thereof, and a bottom wall disposed under the feed conveyor has a guide member disposed in continuation with the bottom wall of the hopper at a position near the drive wheel of the feed conveyor to prevent wood pieces from accumulating near the drive wheel. This arrangement prevents the wood pieces from being dropped onto the ground during the crushing work.
