  • Patent number: 5683374
Abstract: A liquid absorbent pad includes an elastically stretchable basic sheet upon which an absorbent core is periodically bonded. The absorbent core is bonded while the basic sheet is stretched. The absorbent core includes a structure which encourages the formation of corrugations therein when the basic sheet is released. The corrugations enable the flow of material in the troughs of the corrugations, and thereby reduce soilage of the upper surface of the absorbent core by fetal matter. The liquid absorbent pad is suitable for undergarment use in which the basic sheet includes a waist opening and a pair of leg openings. In one embodiment, the structure which encourages the formation of corrugations includes gaps between adjacent strips of absorbent material. In another embodiment, the structure is periodic regions of reduced density or rigidity. In a further embodiment, the structure includes periodic longitudinal indentations alternating on opposite sides of the absorbent pad.

  • Patent number: 5427838
Abstract: Here is disclosed a flexible plastic sheet comprising a plurality of first direction ribs (Y.sub.1, Y.sub.2 . . . ) each having opposite sides (12, 13) extending in the first direction (Y) and curved downward crossing a plurality of second direction ribs (X.sub.1, X.sub.2 . . . ) each having opposite sides (14, 15) extending in the second direction (X) and curved downward. The sheet is continuous in an area surrounded by each pair of adjacent first direction ribs and each pair of adjacent second direction ribs which cross the pair of adjacent first direction ribs. At each crossing (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, C.sub.3, C.sub.4), one of the ribs bulges upward and the opposite side edges of this rib are connected to the top of the other rib. The plastic sheet of this invention is featured by less gloss and less sticky touch, and is preferably used as a liquid-impermeable backsheet of a disposable hygienic wearable article.

  • Patent number: 5399411
Abstract: Here is disclosed a flexible and air-permeable plastic sheet comprising a plurality of first direction ribs (Y.sub.1, Y.sub.2, . . . ) each having opposite sides (2, 3) extending in the first direction (Y) and curved downward crossing a plurality of second direction ribs (X.sub.1, X.sub.2, . . . ) each having opposite sides (4, 5) extending in the second direction (X) and curved downward so that each pair of adjacent first direction ribs and each pair of adjacent second direction ribs crossing these first direction ribs define together an air-permeable vacant space. At each crossing (C.sub.1, C.sub.2, C.sub.3, C.sub.4), one of the ribs bulges upward and opposite side edges of this rib crosses the top (T.sub.1, T.sub.2) of the other rib. The plastic sheet of this invention is featured by less gloss and less sticky touch, and preferably used as a topsheet of a disposable hygienic wearable article.
