  • Patent number: 5452217
Abstract: A vehicle route guidance system includes a map information storage section 10 which has a road type storage section 10a for storing various types of roads such as toll roads, express highways and motorways. A route guidance control section 26 reads out map information including road type information and route information. A road type change point detecting section 26a detects a road type change point. The route guidance control section 26 causes a display 28 and a voice controller 30 to perform the route guidance when a vehicle approaches a point a given distance short of the road type change point. The voice controller 30 responds to the instruction from the route guidance control section 26 to announce the route guidance for informing the driver of the entry to a toll road, express highway or motorway.

  • Patent number: 4982622
Abstract: A pressure control device of an automatic transmission in which duty ratio of speed gear changing solenoid is controlled, when a shift is done from D, 2 or L range to P, R or N range and back again to D, 2 or L range, such that the duty ratio is maintained at 0% to ensure a sufficiently large apply flow rate and then increased followed by a progressive decrease towards 0%. The time over which the duty ratio is maintained at 0% is shortened in an amount which is determined in accordance with the time elapsed till the shift back to the D, 2 or L range, whereby an abrupt application of the engaging hydraulic pressure to a clutch is avoided to minimize a shock which is generated at the time of shifting.

  • Patent number: 4918606
Abstract: A rate of change in vehicle velocity is calculated by comparing a present vehicle velocity signal and an immediately preceding vehicle velocity signal. If the rate of change in vehicle velocity is greater than a rate of change capable of being produced by actual traveling of the vehicle, a decision is rendered to the effect that the vehicle velocity sensor is faulty, fail-safe mode processing is executed and the automatic transmission is controlled in such a manner that traveling of the vehicle will not be impaired. Thus, if the vehicle velocity sensor malfunctions, the automatic transmission can be controlled so as not to impair traveling of the vehicle, thereby allowing the vehicle to travel safely and stably. The fail-safe function can be performed satisfactorily even if only a single vehicle velocity sensor is provided.

  • Patent number: 4899278
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, as shown, for example, in FIG. 1, when a second counter 14 attains a number of pulses n needed for period measurement, the time required for n pulses to enter is obtained from a second memory 16, which stores the time that prevailed n pulses ago, and a first memory 15, which stores the time prevailing when the present velocity signal enters. Vehicle velocity is calculated from the time obtained. A second timer 11 is reset whenever the velocity signal enters in order to check the pulse input time interval. When the value in the second timer 11 exceeds a predetermined value t, the second counter 14 is reset in order to remeasure the time required for the n pulses to enter. Thereafter, the contents of the first memory 15 are stored in the second memory 16 and the second timer 11 is also reset.

  • Patent number: 4841445
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, the mounting position of a throttle opening sensor is adjusted in such a manner that the output voltage of the sensor attains a value a value of V.sub.100 at a throttle opening of 100%. When execution of the system program starts, V.sub.0 is stored in memory as initialized voltage data at a throttle opening of 0%. A throttle opening .theta..alpha. corresponding to sensed voltage data V.alpha. is calculated in an arithmetic unit in accordance with the following equation: ##EQU1## The throttle opening - output voltage characteristic may change due to an error in mounting the throttle opening sensor, a change in the length of the throttle cable caused by a temperature variation, or a change in resistance value caused by aging. If such is the case and a voltage V'.sub.0 greater than the previously stored voltage V.sub.O prevailing at the throttle opening of 0% is sensed, then V'.sub.0 is stored in memory as new voltage data corresponding to the throttle opening of 0%.
