Publication number: 20080201593Abstract: The storage control device of the present invention reduces the power consumption amount by stopping the transmission of power to enclosures that are not accessed. A plurality of additional enclosures are switch-connected via backend switches to a base enclosure. Drives that have not been accessed for a predetermined time or more undergo spin-down. When all of the drives in the enclosure enter a spin-down state, the supply of power from the power supply in the enclosure to the respective drives is stopped. The base enclosure that manages the system constitution of the storage control device turns OFF the switch connected to the enclosure when all of the drives in a certain enclosure have spun down. The transmission of power to this enclosure is accordingly stopped.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2008Publication date: August 21, 2008Inventors: Masanori Hori, Kiyoshi Honda

Patent number: 7370149Abstract: Apparatus to navigate connection among a controller housing and disk device housings which constitute a storage device. The controller housing, the disk device housings, and the like are stored in a storage device housing and are connected by ENC cables according to a typical connection method as preparation. A connection information file, which defines a connection state among respective connectors, is inputted to the controller housing. A controller lights or blinks LEDs of connectors, to which the ENC cables should be connected based on the connection information file, in a connection order. The controller navigates connection by sequentially lighting the LEDs of the connectors, which should be connected, in this way.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2005Date of Patent: May 6, 2008Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Katsuyoshi Suzuki, Masanori Hori

Publication number: 20080080131Abstract: The storage control device of the present invention reduces power consumption by stopping the flow of power to enclosures that are not being accessed. A plurality of additional enclosures are connected to a base enclosure by means of a daisy-chain connection. The respective additional enclosures are divided into three levels, namely a low usage frequency level, a medium usage frequency level, and a high usage frequency level depending on the connection distance of the additional enclosures from the base enclosure. Drives that have not been accessed for a predetermined time are spun down. When all the drives in the enclosure are in the spin down state, the supply of power from the power supply to the respective drives is stopped. Further, when the flow of power to an additional enclosure located below the enclosure itself has stopped, the switch of the latter enclosure is turned OFF and the flow of power to the additional enclosure is stopped.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2006Publication date: April 3, 2008Inventors: Masanori Hori, Masahiko Sato, Akihito Yamanashi

Patent number: 7139170Abstract: In a disk array device for cooling respective sections including a HDD by a fan, drop of cooling efficiency by the difference of conditions of HDD mounted and unmounted sections is prevented and the use of a dummy HDD is deleted/eliminated. A housing contains a HDA mounted on the HDD, a power controller board for performing control to the HDD, a power unit for supplying power to each section, a fan for cooling the housing therein, and a backboard for connecting all the sections. On one backboard surface, the HDA is mounted, which has a cooling function for making cooling air flowing in the housing and exhausting air from the housing via a region on which the HDA are mounted and via a vent hole on the backboard. For the vent hole, a shutter is mounted, which has a mechanism for adjusting an open area rate of the vent hole by opening when the HDA is mounted and closing when removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: November 21, 2006Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takashi Chikusa, Masanori Hori, Toshio Tachibana, Takehiro Maki, Hirotaka Honma

Publication number: 20060232914Abstract: This invention provides a storage apparatus for inhibiting temperature increase in a chassis caused when a cooling fan or a module is detached and replaced due to the failure thereof. The storage apparatus comprises a controller for controlling data transfer, a power source supplying a power to a hard disk drive and the controller and having a fan, and a base chassis. The controller monitors a state of other controller and the power source, rotates the fan of the power source corresponding to the module in which a failure is detected at a first high speed higher than a normal rotational speed when detecting the failure of the other controller or the power source, and rotates the fan rotated at the first high speed at a second high speed higher than the first high speed when detecting the detachment of the module in which the failure is detected.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2005Publication date: October 19, 2006Inventors: Masanori Hori, Kiyoshi Honda

Publication number: 20060206734Abstract: A memory section stores a plurality of electric power saving modes classified into groups by combining a plurality of electric power saving items in a television image receiver, a DVD or an LCD. Microcomputer controls one of the plurality of the electric power saving modes to be set to ON/OFF, thereby making it possible to ON/OFF control a plurality of electric power saving items included in that electric power saving mode includes all together. In accordance with this electric power saving mode, a dimming level of a backlight is decreased to a preset brightness or the backlight is automatically shut down.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2006Publication date: September 14, 2006Inventor: Masanori Hori

Patent number: 6537315Abstract: An artificial heart has a driving section, a nozzle section, a pump section for insertion into a ventricle of a human heart, and a sealing section forming a seal for a driving shaft extending from the driving section for driving the pump section. A sealing liquid chamber filled with a sealing liquid is formed around the driving shaft between the sealing mechanism and the driving section. The sealing liquid in the sealing liquid chamber maintains the sealing mechanism in a liquid-tight state and lubricates the sealing mechanism, whereby blood is prevented from entering the driving section. Even if blood happens to enter the driving section, the blood is mixed with the sealing liquid and does not coagulate. Thus, the operation of the artificial heart is not suppressed.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignees: Sun Medical Technology Research Corporation, NOK Corporation, Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Kenji Yamazaki, Toshio Mori, Haruo Iiyama, Shunichi Yamazaki, Nobutaka Ito, Osami Miyao, Masanori Hori, Yukio Iwasaki, Hitoshi Adachi, Kouji Higuchi
