  • Publication number: 20090023962
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing an alcohol from fats and oils, including: step 1 of reacting starting fats and oils with water to produce a reaction product containing a glycerin unit, and step 2 of subjecting the reaction product obtained in step 1 to a hydrogenation reaction in the presence of a catalyst in the coexistence of water in an amount of 0.5 mole or more relative to 1 mole of the glycerin unit contained in the reaction product.

  • Patent number: 7474451
Abstract: An optical scanning device includes a deflector that deflects light fluxes emitted from light sources and rotates in a first direction, optical systems that direct deflected light fluxes onto subject surfaces, and a member that prevents a flare beam reflected by one of the optical systems from entering another one of the optical systems. The deflector includes first edges in the first direction and the member includes second edges arranged in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The second edges are out of alignment with each other in the first direction so that a first edge does not pass all of the second edges simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 7277655
Abstract: An optical writing unit for use in an image forming apparatus, wherein the optical writing unit includes an optical system which generates a light beam to write an electrostatic latent image on an image carrying member of the image forming apparatus, and a casing which encases the optical system. The casing includes an opening portion and a transparent member which externally seals the opening portion and has a top surface higher than a surface of the casing with a predetermined height and an optical writing area through which the light beam emits.

  • Patent number: 7208643
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a fatty alcohol, including hydrogenating a fatty acid ester to prepare a crude fatty alcohol product, and distilling and refining the resulting crude fatty alcohol to prepare a fatty alcohol, further including recovering a part or the whole of distillation residues obtained in the distillation step and removing an alkali component from the distillation residues, adding the treated distillation residues to hydrogenation step or to a starting fatty acid ester feed.
