    Abstract: The present invention provides a cage, for a rolling bearing, whose surface is silver-plated by using a barrel plating method capable of improving the durability thereof in a sliding test. In the cage, for the rolling bearing, made of an iron metal material and having a precious metal-plated layer formed on a surface thereof, the precious metal-plated layer is formed on a base plated layer formed on a surface of the iron metal material by using a barrel electroplating method. A surface of the base plated layer consists of a smooth surface. The precious metal-plated layer is in direct close contact with the smooth surface. The base plated layer consists of a metal having a higher ionization tendency than the precious metal formed on the surface of the base plated layer. A cavity is not present at an interface between the copper-plated layer and the silver-plated layer.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an optical fiber having no defect in the refraction index profile comprising manufacturing a bare fiber by heating and extending a core starting material and forming a cladding layer on said core to produce a double-layer of the core and cladding with different refraction indices. Fine granules of oxide for the glass cladding can be formed by vapor deposition on the bare fiber, and these can be fused to form the cladding by heating. Another method for forming the cladding layer is to pass the bare fiber for the core through a fine hole provided at the bottom of a crucible in which the glass for the cladding is contained in liquid form.

The composite filament consists essentially of (a) a block copolymer, as the first component, having a melting point of not lower than 170.degree.C and consisting essentially of 35-80 wt. % of a polyester, as the hard segment, predominantly containing a tetramethylene terephthalate unit and 20-65 wt. % of a long-chain glycol having a molecular weight of 500 to 5,000 as the soft segment, and (b) a polyester, as the second component, predominantly containing a tetramethylene terephthalate unit. The composite filament produces crimps superior particularly in percent of crimp and percent of crimp retentivity when drawn and relaxed.
