  • Patent number: 5687582
Abstract: A refrigeration system uses a refrigerant which contains, as a main component, hydrocarbon or HFC-152a. A fluid tube, such as, a gas charge port tube is hermetically connected to a refrigerant flow passage in the refrigeration system for filling at least the refrigerant into the refrigerant flow passage. The fluid tube is sealed against leakage of the refrigerant from the refrigerant flow passage by means of a pinched portion and a squashed portion of a flat-plate shape which extends from the pinched portion to a distal end thereof. The squashed portion may be folded at a plurality of portions for enhancing the sealing effect. Further, instead of the squashed portion, an adhesive may be used for reinforcing the sealing effect provided by the pinched portion. Alternatively or with the use of the adhesive, an elastomer may be used for reinforcing the sealing effect provided by the pinched portion.

  • Patent number: 5557945
Abstract: A filter formed of a filter material, such as, fluororesin, cellulose ester, polycarbonate or silica fiber is provided in a refrigerant flow passage of a refrigeration system. In the refrigerant flow passage, the filter is sandwiched by porous members, or the filter is attached to a porous member by means of, such as, heat sealing. The filter may be provided in a drier provided in the refrigerant flow passage. Alternatively, the filter may be provided in the refrigerant flow passage within a sealed casing of a refrigerant compressor which is incorporated in the refrigeration system.

  • Patent number: 5554016
Abstract: A hermetic compressor for use in refrigeration systems is provided. The hermetic compressor includes a compressor unit disposed within an enclosed compressor casing. The compressor unit has a compression chamber and a valve assembly having an inlet port arranged to introduce refrigerant into the compression chamber and an outlet port for discharging the refrigerant compressed in the compression chamber. The valve assembly includes a valve plate, a single outlet reed valve, and a spring member. The valve plate has formed therein a recessed portion in which the outlet port is formed. The outlet reed valve has a supporting portion and a valve portion for selectively opening and closing the outlet port according to a pressure level of the refrigerant compressed in the compression chamber. The recessed portion has protrusions to define an outlet reed valve housing in which the supporting portion of the valve portion of the outlet reed valve is secured.

  • Patent number: 5252038
Abstract: A low noise, hermetic motor-driven compressor suitable for used in a refrigerator or an air-conditioner is disclosed in which a closed container has a spherical wall portion on which a combined motor-and-compressor assembly is supported via a suspension mechanism, and the suspension mechanism includes two snubber stays having spherical portions complementary in contour to the shape of the spherical wall portion of the closed container and welded to the spherical wall portion. The spherical wall portion increases the stiffness of the closed container, which stiffness is enhanced by the spherical portions of the snubber stays. The thus reinformed closed container is unlikely to vibrate in resonance with the vibration of the combined motor-and-compressor assembly. Thus, the hermetic motor-driven compressor is able to operate silently.

  • Patent number: 5252039
Abstract: An enclosed motor-driven compressor includes a vertical crankshaft rotatably supported by two ball bearings and having an eccentric portion through which a motor element and a compressor element are operatively connected. The two ball bearings are disposed on opposite sides of the eccentric portion so that a reaction force of a piston which is exerted on the eccentric portion is supported evenly by the ball bearings. With the ball bearings thus arranged, the load on the crankshaft is lowered and the efficiency of the motor element is increased. A lubricating oil held at the bottom of a container is sucked through an internal groove of the crankshaft and then supplied from outlets to the respective ball bearings. The ball bearings thus lubricated have a prolonged service life. The compressor may have an oil sump disposed either above or below the ball bearing for improving lubricating condition of the ball bearing.

  • Patent number: 5224845
Abstract: A refrigerant circulation pump for circulating a liquid refrigerant through an air-conditioner has a small lubrication hole extending through a bearing by means of which a shaft for driving a compressor unit of the pump is rotatably supported. The lubrication hole communicates at one of its opposite ends with a compression chamber of the compressor unit, the other of the opposite ends communicating with a friction point between the shaft and the bearing. While the pump is operating, a part of the liquid refrigerant is fed under pressure from the compression chamber to the friction point between the shaft and the bearing, thereby lubricating the friction point. With this lubrication, the pump is able to operate reliably for a prolonged period of time without causing wear of the shaft and the bearing.
