Abstract: A grooved traverse drum for use in a drum winder incorporates a cylindrical abrasion-resistant piece which is slantwise inserted therein in a shallow yarn guide groove portion. The cylindrical abrasion-resistant piece elongates substantially in the direction in which the shallow yarn guide groove portion extends. Such abrasion-resistant piece has a notch or indentation formed in its one end peripheral surface and is positioned with respect to the shallow groove portion such that the notch takes place substantially the whole of the shallow groove portion at the crossover point such that yarn guided by this shallow groove portion only contacts the notch in the abrasion-resistant piece.

Abstract: A grooved traverse drum for use in a drum winder is provided with a recess which facilitates the cutting and removal of a yarn coiled around the drum. The recess is formed by modifying that one of the lateral walls forming an interrupted wider yarn guide groove portion at a crossover point of the yarn guide groove which does not contribute to the guiding of the yarn, in such a manner as to widen the groove bottom.

Abstract: A grooved traverse drum for use in a drum winder having an abrasion-resistant member inserted and fixed therein at each crossover point of the yarn guide groove. The abrasion-resistant member has a recess which forms the bottom and opposite side walls of the yarn guide groove at each crossover point. The yarn travel guide surface of the recess, except a very small portion thereof, is formed to be slightly higher than the groove-forming surface of the drum constituting material.

Abstract: A new and improved grooved traverse drum for winding yarn into a cone cheese is provided which is characterized by having the traverse drum end adjacent the small end of the cone cheese being of a reduced diameter for a major proportion of its circumference so as to eliminate slippage therebetween and thereby minimize possible yarn damage.

Abstract: A grooved traverse drum for a winder wherein in order to improve the wear resistance of the turns at opposite traverse ends of the yarn guide groove formed along the cylindrical surface of the drum, a wear-resisting member is inserted in each of said turns.
