  • Patent number: 4537174
Abstract: An output supply control apparatus controls the supply of an output from an internal combustion engine magneto generator to its loads so as to effectively utilize the magneto generator. The desired ignition energy is obtained by charging a discharge capacitor of a contactless ignition system with a high induced voltage produced upon the rapid interruption of the short-circuit current in the generating coil, and also any other load such as a battery or lamp is energized by the high induced voltage exceeding a predetermined value. A constant voltage supply for the contactless ignition system ignition signal generating circuit is operated by the generating coil output current preceding the interruption. A regulator is included which monitors a lamp load voltage to commutate or transfer an excess output to the battery load and is operable in response to an overvoltage.

  • Patent number: 4184467
Abstract: A contactless ignition system for an internal combustion engine in which a moderately rising timing signal and a steeply rising auxiliary signal are generated so that an auxiliary thyristor is triggered by the auxiliary signal to be conductive to render a main thyrister which is connected in series with the auxiliary thyristor to be conductive by the timing signal and in which a resistor for holding the auxiliary thyristor in the conductive state is connected in parallel with the main thyristor so that the ignition timing in the high speed range may be controlled by the auxiliary signal to prevent the excessive spark timing advance in the high speed range and also in the low speed range the auxiliary thyristor may be maintained in the conductive state until the main thyristor is made conductive to thereby prevent misfiring.

  • Patent number: 4150652
Abstract: A contactless ignition system for an internal combustion engine wherein a capacitor is charged by the output from the generating coils of a magneto-alternator driven by the engine, the output of the generating coils is applied to the gate of a thyristor through a transformer to turn on the thyristor, the stored charge on the capacitor is rapidly discharged through the primary winding of an ignition coil in response to the conduction of the thyristor to generate a high voltage in the secondary winding of the ignition coil and cause an ignition spark at the desired spark plug, and the output of the generating coils is applied to the gate of the thyristor through a second transformer and a Zener diode so that when the number of revolutions of the engine exceeds a predetermined value the output of the second transformer becomes higher than the Zener voltage of the Zener diode and the gate voltage of the thyristor is varied in accordance with the output of the second transformer to retard or advance the firing tim

  • Patent number: 4116188
Abstract: In the ignition system having a thyristor for performing a switching action, another thyristor is connected to capacitor charging coils in parallel with the thyristor, a primary winding of a transformer is connected in series with the another thyristor, a secondary winding is connected to a gate of the thyristor, and a trigger coil generating an ignition signal and a reversion protecting signal is connected to a gate of the another thyristor. By the transformer and the another thyristor, only the ignition signal is applied to the gate of the thyristor during a normal running of an engine, while only the reversion protecting signal is applied to the gate of the thyristor during a reverse rotation of the engine to prevent a capacitor from being charged thus protecting the reverse rotation.

  • Patent number: 4079712
Abstract: In a contactless capacitor discharge type ignition system for an internal combustion engine in which a timing signal coil is connected to a control gate of a switching thyristor for discharging a stored charge on a capacitor, a series circuit is connected across the timing signal coil in order to pass a controlled current in one direction. By the shortcircuit of current flowing through the coil, the output of the timing signal coil of the opposite direction is so influenced as to retard the spark timing, whereby the spark retard can be carried at a relatively high speed operation of an engine.

  • Patent number: 4075989
Abstract: An ignition timing for a 2-cycle internal combustion engine is sharply and continuously retarded as the engine speed increases above a set engine speed at which the engine can produce a maximum output power, whereby the engine output power is gradually decreased above the set engine speed.
