  • Publication number: 20080230471
Abstract: This invention relates to functional nonwoven filter media provided by radiation-induced graft copolymerization and its production method. Meltblown type of nonwoven (Meltblown) comprised of fine fibers, less than 8 micron in diameter, of polyolefin or polyamide is chosen as the suitable grafting trunk polymer. The production methods are composed of following steps, 1) irradiation less than 30 kGy dose to the Meltblown with electron beam or gamma ray; 2) graft copolymerization of emulsified vinyl monomer onto the Meltblown; and 3) chemical conversion of ion exchange group onto the grafted vinyl monomer. These steps are independently conducted in their suitable operation conditions.

  • Publication number: 20080139796
Abstract: After adding water to the carboxymethyl carrageenan which is raw material and mixing them well, the ionizing radiation of more than fixed dose is irradiated to the obtained paste sample of fixed concentration. As a result, an excellent hydrogel in heat resistance which does not dissolve at 50° C. or more can be obtained. The manufactured gel can be used for many kinds of products. Because this gel has a biodegradation characteristic, it is possible to dispose by composting.

  • Publication number: 20080070997
Abstract: A method of preparing a gel from carboxymethyl cellulose alkali metal salt, which is an anionic cellulose derivative, by using acid or acid solution. To increase the strength and the elasticity of a gel, a water-insoluble metal compound or organic reinforcement is added when mixing. The obtained gel is one of environmentally friendly type gels because the raw material is derived from plant.

  • Publication number: 20080016644
Abstract: A surface-modified blade rubber includes a surface modified by being subjected to irradiation treatment that generates radical active sites in the blade rubber and polymerization for graft polymerization starting from a generated radical active site. A method for modifying a blade rubber surface includes subjecting rubber of a blade rubber to irradiation treatment that generates radical active sites and polymerization for graft polymerization starting from a generated radical active site.

  • Publication number: 20050272876
Abstract: A process for emulsion graft polymerization of a polymeric substrate, which comprises a step of activating a polymeric substrate, and a step of contacting the activated polymeric substrate with an emulsion comprising a surfactant, water, and reactive monomers, thereby graft polymerizing the reactive monomers to the polymeric substrate, and products polymerized by the process, where the surfactant is selected from the group consisting of an anionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant, an amphoric surfactant, a non-ionic surfactant and a mixture thereof, and the polymeric substrate is in the form of woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, films, hollow filamentary films, flat films or threads, made from polyolefinic fibers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., or natural polymeric fibers such as chitin, chitosan, cellulose, starch, etc.

  • Publication number: 20050124765
Abstract: An adsorbent for recovering useful rare metals in solution by adsorption is synthesized by forming reactive sites on a polymeric base material at first, then polymerizing reactive monomers at the reactive sites of the polymeric base material by graft polymerization, thereby forming graft chains, and introducing chelate-forming groups into the graft chains, where the polymeric base material is made of woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, films, hollow filament films (hollow fibes) or threads of polyolefinic material such as polyethylene, polypropylene or the like, and the reactive monomers are preferably vinyl reactive monomers or vinyl reactive monomers having chelate-forming groups.

  • Patent number: 4981798
Abstract: A carrier for immobilization of microorganisms is prepared by impregnating a fabric such as cotton gauze having a mesh size of 10-50 with 20-50% by weight of a vinyl monomer such as ethlene glycol methacrylate and polymerizing the monomer with ionizing radiation to form a polymer coating on the fabric. A microorganism such as Trichoderma reesei is grown in a liquid culture medium in contact with the polymer-coated fabric and the polymer-coated fabric is recovered containing growing cells of the microorganism. The polymer-coated fabric has high air permeability and permits good diffusion of liquid culture medium.
