  • Patent number: 7715148
Abstract: A slider having an improved atmospheric pressure variation characteristic can be provided by ensuring the desired amount of inflow of air flowing to the air bearing surface in a region where it is difficult to ensure the desired air inflow amount, e.g., a region where the slider/disk relative speed is low or a region where the area of the air bearing surface is small by forming a groove configuration surface in a specified shape. In the negative pressure utilization type slider, a groove configuration surface lower in height than an air in flow surface is formed between the disk inner peripheral end and the disk outer peripheral end of the air inflow surface in the air flow incoming end side of a pressure generating surface, separately from a negative pressure generating surface.

  • Patent number: 7591180
Abstract: A contact inspection method and device in which a detection element which produces a detection output according to vibration of a rotating body is mounted on the rotating body to detect contact of an object with the rotating body, more particularly a method and device suitable for evaluating mechanical characteristics of a rotating magnetic disk (1) and a slider (2) in a magnetic disk device are provided. A detection element (12) which produces a detection output according to vibration is mounted on a rotating body (1). The detection output is transmitted to a stationary portion through a rotary transformer (33h). The rotating body (1) rotates based on the transmitted detection output. The rotary transformer has a sufficient impedance with which the detection element obtains a predetermined output in a portion of an effective sensitivity band of the detection element.

  • Patent number: 7061721
Abstract: A slider maintains a uniform flying posture and a predetermined flying height by suppressing variations of roll angle and flying height. At an air bearing surface of the slider, an edge line on an air influx end side and an edge line at a disk outer circumference side end are connected by an edge line having a recess angle ? (rad) with respect to an abscissa. The edge line on the air influx end side and an edge line at the disk inner circumference side end are connected by an edge line having a recess angle ? (rad) with respect to the abscissa, thereby forming a concave part, and when a distance “x” from an air influx end to the concave part of the air bearing surface is standardized by a length L of the slider to make X=x/L, the recess angles ? and ? are as follows: 0.06×?/X<?<0.12×?/X, and 0.05×?/X<?<0.13×?/X.

  • Patent number: 6105432
Abstract: The contact tester of the present invention includes: a holding mechanism for holding a disk and rotating integrally with the disk, an arm driving for driving an arm which supports a slider, the slider is provided with a head for recording/reproducing information on/from the disk. In addition, a first vibration detection element for detecting contact between the slider and the disk is provided. Furthermore, a signal transmission for transmitting an output signal of the first vibration detection element and a signal analysis for analyzing the output signal transmitted via the signal transmission are provided, where the first vibration detection element is mounted at a position where a vibration of the arm is not detected.
