  • Patent number: 5583772
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to present a reliable evaluation method for determining whether a moving vehicle is in a stable antiskid control operation or in an unstable antiskid control operation even when there are wheel speed pulsation caused, and a device based on such a method. In the antiskid control apparatuses and the methods of the invention, it is determined that the moving vehicle is in the stable control when the wheel acceleration being generated while the wheel speed is decreasing exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and also determined that the moving vehicle is in the unstable control when the wheel acceleration is below the threshold value. In another antiskid control apparatus and the method of the invention, it is determined that moving vehicle is in the unstable control or in the stable control basis on the changes in the wheel slipping rate with respect to the coefficient of friction between the wheel and a road.

  • Patent number: 5560691
Abstract: In the disclosed method and apparatus, the brake fluid pressure in a wheel cylinder is reduced and thereafter it is re-increased so that the braking torque is linearly increased with respect to time due to the anti-skid control and the rate of change of the coefficient of road surface friction with respect to the wheel slip rate is determined while the brake fluid pressure is thus re-increased so that the brake fluid pressure is re-relieved when said rate of change comes below a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 5286100
Abstract: The present invention comprises a modulator which controls the brake fluid pressure which is provided to the hydraulic systems which extend from the brake fluid pressure source to each wheel, and a controller which controls said modulator. The controller lowers the rate of the increase in brake fluid pressure in one of the wheels on the opposite right or left side of a wheel which is being antiskid controlled, and by thus operating the modulator and maintaining or decreasing brake fluid pressure, relaxes the conditions for the initiation of antiskid control. Concretely, it lowers the threshold values for the slip ratio and the deceleration in the wheel speed, which are used in the decision to initiate antiskid control.

  • Patent number: 5251648
Abstract: A method of plumping cut tobacco includes impregnating the cut tobacco with an adjuvant plumping agent and forcing the adjuvant plumping agent to expand in order to inflate the tissues of cut tobacco (plumping step), idly storing the plumped tobacco with a low moisture content level (idle storage step) and remoisturizing the cut tobacco after the idle storage step by adding moisture to achieve a predetermined final moisture content level (moisture content regulating step). With such a method, cut tobacco can be remarkably plumped before it is used for cigarette production.

  • Patent number: 5125723
Abstract: In the present invention, the conditions necessary for the change from the reducing-pressure mode to the holding pressure mode are changed based on the length of the period of instability from the beginning of wheel slippage to the stopping of this slippage, and the length of the period of continued severe locking in which the slip ratio of the wheel exceeds a certain fixed value. Therefore, even when there is a disturbance in the form of roughnesses in the road surface or the like, this is determined to be a temporary phenomenon and the switching of the setting from the reducing-pressure mode to the holding pressure mode can take place in a reliable manner, and the usual, stable braking power can be achieved in correspondence with the relationship between the road surface and the tires.

  • Patent number: 5117361
Abstract: The present invention relates to an anti-skid brake control apparatus for a brake system of wheeled vehicles. The control apparatus according to the present invention is essentially composed of a slip speed meter, a threshold value setting device and a brake oil pressure control device. The slip speed meter calculates at least one of a slip speed and a wheel acceleration. The acceleration is a time derivative of the rotational speed of a wheel. The threshold value setting device temporarily determines a threshold value for at least one of the slip speed and the wheel acceleration with reference to at least one of the slip speed and the wheel acceleration. The brake oil pressure control device controlling braking force of the brake system with reference to at least one of a comparison of the slip speed and the threshold value thereof, and a comparison of the wheel acceleration and the threshold value thereof, whereby skidding of the wheel is prevented by temporarily controlling the braking force.

  • Patent number: 4863709
Abstract: Disclosed is a granular calcium hypochlorite composition having a calcium hypochlorite content of at least 55 wt. % and composed of particles having an ellipsoidal shape in section, wherein at least 50 wt. % of the ellipsoidal particles have a short diameter of 0.3-5 mm, a long diameter of 0.5-20 mm, and a long diameter/short diameter ratio larger than 1.5 but not larger than 5. This composition is prepared by a process wherein a wet calcium hypochlorite composition comprising at least 40 wt. % of calcium hypochlorite and 25-45 wt.% of water is extruded through a die having an orifice diameter of 0.3-5 mm; the extrudate is cut to a length of 0.5-20 mm so that the length/orifice diameter ratio is larger than 1.5 but not larger than 5 to form columnar shaped particles; the columnar shaped particles are subjected to rolling granulation; and the resulting granules are dried until the water content is reduced to 4-22 wt. %.
