    Abstract: A split abrasive roll is provided, including cooperative engaging members (3) disposed on both the rotatable shaft (2) of an abrasive machine and the inner surface of the roll member. The cooperative engaging members affix the center portion of the split abrasive roll to the shaft, while preserving a uniform abrasive outer surface. The respective ends (3b) of each of the roll members are also retained, and the split abrasive roll so provided tends to overcome the deficiencies in the split abrasive rolls of the prior art.

    Abstract: A composition for paper coating which comprises a pigment and, as a pigment binder, a synthetic copolymer latex comprising about 24.5 to 50 parts by weight of at least one aliphatic conjugated diolefin, about 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and about 40 to 75 parts by weight of at least one monoolefinic monomer copolymerizable with the aliphatic conjugated diolefin and the ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, the synthetic copolymer having a gel content of not more than about 60 % by weight based on the weight of the synthetic copolymer.
