  • Patent number: 7113692
Abstract: A recording/reproducing device has an NTSC decoder which receives a video signal and outputs a video signal, an MPEG audio encoder which receives an audio signal and outputs an audio signal, and a synchronous control circuit which detects a synchronizing signal from the video signal input to the NTSC decoder and uses that signal to generate an output synchronizing signal that is different from the input synchronizing signal. The output synchronizing signal is used to output the video signal from the NTSC decoder. In the recording/reproducing device, the NTSC decoder and the MPEG audio encoder provide a delay to the input video signal and audio signal, respectively, and output the video signal and audio signal in accordance with the output synchronizing signal generated by the synchronous control circuit.

  • Patent number: 7092619
Abstract: By reducing the number of seek operations in an operation to play back a signal from a recording medium, the amount of data temporarily stored in a read buffer memory employed in a signal recording/playback apparatus is large enough to be output as a playback signal during a seek operation, allowing a continuous playback operation to be carried out. In order to reduce the number of seek operations, a signal is always recorded onto the recording medium in continuous free areas each having a size equal to or larger than a predetermined recording/playback time length which is typically set at 1 minute. If it is necessary to insert an additional signal having a length smaller than the predetermined recording/playback time length into a point of insertion in an area already occupied by an existing signal, a continuous free area with a size equal to or larger than the predetermined recording/playback time length is newly allocated to the additional signal.

  • Patent number: 7079751
Abstract: The invention provides a broadcast signal recording and playback apparatus and method which can detect a CM included in a television broadcast signal with certainty without an error. A CM candidate period detection section detects a CM using an audio mode signal outputted from a tuner, a sound absence discrimination output from a sound absence detection section and a scene change detection output from a scene change detection section as basic materials. A detection operation discrimination section limits operation of the CM candidate period detection section when it is known that the broadcast signal includes no CM or when the electric field is weak.

  • Patent number: 7050703
Abstract: A video recording and playback apparatus and method by which accurate motion detection can be executed is disclosed. A noise reduction processing circuit performs noise reduction processing for video data inputted thereto from a switch and outputs resulting video data to a motion detection processing section and a video signal interpolation processing section. The motion detection processing section performs a motion detection process for the received video data and outputs a result of the motion detection to the video signal interpolation processing section. The video signal interpolation processing section performs an interpolation process for the video data inputted thereto from the noise reduction processing circuit based on the result of the motion detection received from the motion detection processing section and outputs resulting video data.

  • Publication number: 20050223403
Abstract: An information processing apparatus capable of accurately detecting commercials included in a television broadcast. A commercial candidate section detector detects a commercial candidate section based on the characteristics of transitions between a program and a commercial and based on the characteristics of commercials. Transitional criteria include quiet sections, scene change points and changes in the audio multiplex mode. A commercial block detector detects a commercial block, which is composed of a plurality of commercial sections and is interposed between program portions, in conformity with the number of frames of the individual commercial candidate sections detected by the commercial candidate section detector, and then outputs to a switch a control signal based on the result of such commercial block detection.

  • Patent number: 6925340
Abstract: An apparatus and method for recording and reproducing a sound (i.e. audio) signal corresponding to a video signal at a higher than normal speed. The method delimits a sound signal reproduced at a recording medium at a speed higher than a normal speed into successive processing unit periods. For each processing unit period, sound absence portion(s) of the reproduced sound signal are deleted (or partially deleted) within a range corresponding to a normal speed reproduction. Sound presence portions preceding and following the deleted absence portions are joined or compressed to produce a recognizable sound signal.

  • Publication number: 20050045866
Abstract: Ultraviolet light incident from the side of a surface layer 5 passes through the surface layer 5 to reach an optical absorption layer 4. Light which reaches the optical absorption layer 4 is absorbed within the optical absorption layer 4, and photoelectrons are generated within the optical absorption layer 4. Photoelectrons diffuse within the optical absorption layer 4, and reach the interface between the optical absorption layer 4 and the surface layer 5. Because the energy band is curved in the vicinity of the interface between the optical absorption layer 4 and surface layer 5, the energy of the photoelectrons is larger than the electron affinity in the surface layer 5, and so photoelectrons are easily ejected to the outside. Here, the optical absorption layer 4 is formed from an Al0.3Ga0.7N layer with an Mg content concentration of not less than 2×1019 cm?3 but not more than 1×1020 cm?3, so that a solar-blind type semiconductor photocathode 1 with high quantum efficiency is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6847776
Abstract: In a signal record/playback apparatus and its method which performs the recording for recording a signal on the recording medium DISK and the playback for playing back the recorded signal from the recording medium DISK at the same time, the recording position and the playback position are set independently and arbitrarily. Record starting position information PREC on the recording medium DISK for starting the recording is stored, playback starting position information PPB on the recording medium DISK for starting the playback is stored, and the recording based on the record starting position information PREC and the playback based on the playback starting position information PPB are independently performed, so as to realize a signal record/playback apparatus and its method which can set the record starting position PREC and the playback starting position PPB arbitrarily.

  • Patent number: 6757484
Abstract: A system for recording an input video signal input to an A/D conversion processing section on a recording medium in accordance with a recording clock generated by a recording system synchronous control section, and for outputting the video signal recorded on the recording medium to outside in accordance with a reproducing system synchronous control section. When switching and outputting a recording video signal input to the A/D conversion processing section and a reproduction video signal recorded on the recording medium and then decoded and output by an MPEG AV decoder, the recording video signal is temporarily stored in a frame synchronizer, and the recording video signal stored in the frame synchronizer and the reproduction video signal decoded by the MPEG AV decoder are switched and output in accordance with a reproduction clock generated by the reproducing system synchronous control section.

  • Patent number: 6728473
Abstract: A moving picture recording and reproduction apparatus and method as well as a medium are disclosed by which, upon recording of a television program, representative pictures from which contents of a program can be grasped can be recorded. Frame pictures are extracted from moving pictures being recorded, and accuracy values with which a character is present in the frame pictures are calculated. Further, accuracy values with which the phase of a person is present in the frame pictures are calculated, and the levels of an audio signal corresponding to the frame pictures are detected. Then, evaluation values are calculated using results of the calculations and the detection, and a maximum one of the evaluation values is detected. Thereafter, the frame picture corresponding to the maximum evaluation value is reduced in size and recorded onto a recording medium so that it may be used as an index upon playing back of the recording medium.
