Each item value pattern is a leading part of an item value list with a variable length. A destination group mapper associates each node of the frequent tree with one of the plurality of destination groups. A record sorter traces the frequent tree according to the item value list of each given record, and upon reaching a particular node, puts the record into the destination group associated with that node.

If it is determined that a preceding retrieving process is not being performed, then a retrieval pattern variable table and a retrieval request expression variable table are generated. According to the retrieval request expression variable table, a database of the data to be searched is searched to extract a retrieval result matching the retrieval condition transmitted from each of the terminal devices, and the extracted retrieval result is transmitted to each of the plurality of terminal devices. Thus, although retrieval requests are continuously transmitted from respective users, a retrieval result can be returned to each user terminal in the same response time as in the case where a user terminal corresponds to a retrieval device.

An access allowance unit allows access to the secret key stored in the storage medium when positions of input image points on the image and a sequence of the positions, subsequently specified using the input device at a time of the access, match with the positions and the sequence from the position/sequence input unit. A decryption unit generates plain data of the secret key from the encrypted data stored in the storage medium when the access is allowed by the access allowance unit.

The liquid crystal has pixels to be driven by a signal applied through the plurality of linear electrodes and the plurality of photoconductive layers.

Abstract: A multi-layered liquid crystal display device is disclosed, which includes a stack of liquid crystal layers in which the longitudinal axes of the liquid crystal molecules extend spirally, the liquid crystal layers being disposed in parallel with the spiral axes. A voltage supply is provided for supplying a voltage to at least a portion of the liquid crystal layers for conversion of the molecular alignment. Also provided is a pair of polarizers for making visible the conversion of the molecular alignment. More particularly, the polarization direction of the polarizers or direction normal to the polarization direction is deflected within the range of 3.degree. to 15.degree. with respect to the longitudinal direction of the liquid crystal molecules in a sense to reduce the spiral angle of the liquid crystal layers and the deflection angle is substantially in alignment with the longitudinal direction of the liquid crystal molecules.

Abstract: A liquid-crystal composition to be used in a multiplex-driving system in a twisted nematic (TN) type liquid-crystal display devices is extremely superior in its display characteristics, and is able to meet sufficiently the demands to increase the information content of various liquid-crystal display devices of high-level multiplexing operation. The liquid-crystal composition is more considerable in its usefulness than the validity thereof in half-tone display especially when it is used in a liquid-crystal television.The liquid crystal composition having a positive dielectric anisotropy in the nematic phase, comprises each 3 wt % or more of 2-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-5-alkylpyrimidine compound and of a cyanobiphenyl compound.

Abstract: An improved electrode assembly is disclosed herein especially for use in a matrix type liquid crystal display panel, which assures exact alignment of picture elements and increased yield of manufacture regardless of disalignment between scanning electrodes and signal electrodes in the electrode assembly. The display panel includes a first support carrying a plurality of the scanning electrodes, a second support carrying a plurality of the signal electrodes and disposed to face the first support and a layer of liquid crystal material interposed between the first and second supports. The signal electrodes are divided into an upper block and a lower block and the scanning electrodes are used in common for the upper and lower blocks. Pursuant to the present invention, the width of division between the upper and lower blocks of the signal electrodes is smaller than the spacing of the scanning electrodes.
