  • Patent number: 7995436
Abstract: A recording device for performing recording supporting an optical disk-shaped recording medium having a laminated structure includes a first recording layer and a second recording layer. The recording device includes: a recording section configured to record data in the first recording layer and the second recording layer by irradiating the optical disk-shaped recording medium with laser light; a recording control section configured to control the recording section so as to perform recording in the first recording layer first and next perform recording in the second recording layer when the recording is performed sequentially on the optical disk-shaped recording medium; a pseudo defect area setting section configured to set a pseudo defect area in the second recording layer; and a defect registering section configured to register the real defect area and the pseudo defect area as a defect area.

  • Patent number: 7660510
Abstract: An EPL maker (10) is composed mainly of editing terminals (15), (16) and (17) each reading and decoding each of highly compressed sub materials to produce a material data and make an EPL while displaying, on a monitor, a video based on the material data. The EPL includes identification information for identification of a material used in editing and a format declare state for defining a format of at least a certain material. The EPLs made by the editing terminals (15), (16) and (17) are stored into an EPL storage unit (18). The EPLs stored in the EPL storage unit (18) are read by an edit controller (20). The edit controller (20) makes an edit control signal based on the EPLs, and supplies the signal to a content maker (30). Thus, an editing can be executed with having not to pool the materials once on hand and with labors and costs.

  • Patent number: 5889916
Abstract: A video data recording apparatus for recording video data using a tape-like recording medium accommodated in a cassette provided with a semiconductor memory by which it is possible to suitably determine the cuts and make effective use of the semiconductor memory to enable efficient editing. The user can mark the recorded video data with the desired starting position and ending position of the video data. The marked cuts are used to extract the index picture and, at the same time, the recording positions of the cuts and an index picture on the tape recording medium are recorded in the semiconductor memory.

  • Patent number: 5778006
Abstract: A method of self-diagnosing a device comprises the steps of selecting a diagnostic item, determining whether there is a diagnostic item being interrupted, and executing the selected diagnostic item if it is determined that there is no diagnostic item being interrupted. If a diagnosis is interrupted, information of the interrupted diagnosis is stored. When next maintenance service is performed, the serviceman can be informed of the interrupted diagnosis. If the interrupted diagnosis is to be carried out, it can be continued based on the stored information thereof.

  • Patent number: 5626304
Abstract: When a reference tape tension is changed progressively from a current tape tension to a target tape tension, a tape tension can be made to approach the reference tape tension rapidly and reliably regardless of the magnitude of the difference between the current tape tension and the target tape tension. A tape servo apparatus detects a current tape tension, compares the detected current tape tension with the reference tape tension and regulates the tape tension in response to the comparison between the detected current tape tension and the reference tape tension while the reference tape tension is gradually changed from the current tape tension to the target tape tension, preferably, in a step-wise fashion. The current tape tension is thereby corrected so the system maintains the desired tape tension.

  • Patent number: 4660189
Abstract: This invention relates to an optical disk recording and reproducing apparatus for recording a predetermined signal on and/or reproducing the same from a writable disk which is rotated at a constant linear velocity by using a laser from a laser source. In this case, upon reproducing the above-described signal, if a signal recorded on the inner periphery of the disk is accessed, during the period from this addressing up to the time when the linear velocity at the inner periphery of the disk becomes constant, on the basis of a spindle lock signal, the beam power of the laser from the laser source and irradiating the disk is decreased to thereby prevent useless data from being rewritten on the disk.
