  • Patent number: 6953238
Abstract: A recording system can take the form of a recording apparatus, a recording method or a program to control the recording apparatus for recording a color image on a recording medium by utilizing a recording head on which a plurality of recording elements are arranged. The recording system uses a plurality of compensation methods to compensate a position to be recorded by a recording element which does not execute a recording operation among the plurality of recording elements and selects an appropriate compensation method. Such recording system can resolve nonuniformity in the recorded image such as white streaks and the like generated by non-eject dots and can make the nonuniformity be unrecognized by the human eye. In addition, the recording system can suppress increase in costs of the recording head and can significantly increase recording rates.

  • Patent number: 6854822
Abstract: When multilevel printing is performed by using a plurality of types of inks, which present different densities for similar colors when used for printing, and changing the types of inks and the numbers of ink droplets in printing each pixel, an ink distribution table which defines a combination of the types of inks and the numbers of ink droplets in correspondence with each gray level value is generated on the basis of input information associated with the relative densities of the respective inks. A combination to be used to print each pixel is selected on the basis of the ink distribution table, thereby printing a good grayscale image free from gray-level reversal and the like.

  • Publication number: 20040252148
Abstract: In an image area printed by a nozzle group including a defective nozzle, pixels printed by the defective nozzle and part of pixels located in the vicinity of the same are printed by another nozzle group. As a result, since printing is performed not only at the pixels printed by the defective nozzle but also at the pixels in the neighborhood thereof simultaneously by separate nozzles, irregularities of printing attributable to interpolation are distributed even when there is a relative misalignment between the nozzle groups. It is therefore possible to obtain a preferable image without any increase in output time even when a printing head including a defective nozzle is used.

  • Patent number: 6779865
Abstract: An ink jet printing method and apparatus using a color ink and a print performance improving ink which minimizes an image quality degradation due to blank lines formed by failed or faulty nozzles. This system enables the use of a print head even with failed or faulty nozzles by minimizing the image quality degradation and extends the life of the print head before replacement. The print performance improving ink is deliberately ejected onto a blank line or its vicinity to produce the so-called primer effect, thereby inducing the color ink dots on the lines adjoining the non-ejecting nozzle line to spread into the blank line to make the blank line undistinguishable.

  • Patent number: 6702426
Abstract: A method for correcting image degradations due to nonejecting nozzles or kink ejection of nozzles without reducing a recording rate for an inkjet recording apparatus for recording images at high speed employing a one-pass recording system, in which an image is completed by one time scanning of a recording head relative to a recording medium, such as an inkjet recording apparatus using a full-line type recording head. When corrected data during head shading correction and nonejection complementing in image processing exceed a maximum value capable of being recorded, complementing is controlled with a different color corresponding to data-amount which exceeds the maximum value.

  • Patent number: 6582047
Abstract: A printing apparatus which uses a printing medium, which can retain a large amount of coloring material near its surface and can cause ink solvent to permeate rapidly, and can perform printing in a printing mode that is suitable for the above-mentioned printing medium, is provided. Furthermore, a user friendly printing apparatus is realized. More specifically, the printing mode for the above-mentioned printing medium is a mode that uses less ink ejection per one pixel. Even in this case, high speed printing based on printing of sufficient density and high ink absorption become possible. Furthermore, even in the case printing is made on ordinary paper, a lesser ink ejection amount in the same printing mode is performed, but since this printing mode uses processing liquid that makes the ink insoluble, in a similar way, printing of sufficient density and high speed printing becomes possible.
