  • Patent number: 10498551
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Data for a broadcast or multicast service may be sent over a control channel. A network device may broadcast a message to indicate a plurality of enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS) services offered by the network. The mobile device may transmit an indication to the network device identifying an eMBMS service of interest. The network device may transmit a configuration message before broadcasting or multicasting data of the eMBMS service of interest. The configuration message may notify the mobile device of a control channel on which to receive the data related to the eMBMS service. The network device may then broadcast or multicast the eMBMS service data on the control channel. The data may be segmented at a particular protocol layer and mapped to several transmission time intervals within each repetition of the control channel.

  • Patent number: 10454520
Abstract: Coverage enhancements and coverage mode switching related optimizations are discussed for user equipments (UEs) that may switch between various coverage extension (CE) and non-CE modes of operation. In such enhancements, paging uncertainty and delays may be reduced by sending pages either simultaneously or using historical information over multiple coverage modes available to UEs. Random access procedures may be improved by providing CE mode random access procedures that are available when normal mode random access attempts fail and before declaring radio link failure. Additional aspects include improvements for more advanced UEs to improve coverage within normal mode operations by leveraging techniques used for narrowband CE mode operations, including transmission repetition and gapless transmission scheduling over hopped narrowband frequencies.

  • Patent number: 10455468
Abstract: Techniques are provided for adaptively changing a periodicity of measuring signal characteristics for a UE in a relatively high speed environment based on one or more signal characteristics being outside of a threshold. Periodicity of measuring signal characteristics may be made directly by changing an interval at which measurements are taken. In certain examples, periodicity of measuring signal characteristics may be made indirectly by changing the length of a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle. Some techniques provide one or more radio link monitoring (RLM) parameters may be modified based on a determination that a UE is in a high speed environment or measured signal characteristics are outside of a threshold.

  • Publication number: 20190313239
Abstract: Techniques for optimizing user equipment radio capability signaling for wireless communications are described. In one technique, a type of network to access for communications is determined. A capability identifier(s) associated with a set(s) of user equipment (UE) radio capabilities is determined based, at least in part, on the type of network. • Patent number: 10440661
Abstract: Extended DRX (e-DRX) operation using hyper frame extension signaling are described. The hyper frame extension signaling may extend the system frame number (SFN) range while maintaining backward compatibility for legacy devices not configured to use the extended SFN range. The hyper-SFN extension signaling may include an index to a hyper-SFN transmitted as part of system information different than that used for transmission of the SFN. UEs configured to use the hyper-SFN may effectively use a longer or extended SFN range that includes the legacy SFN range and the hyper-SFN range. The hyper-SFN extension may be used in an extended idle DRX (eI-DRX) mode which may coexist with existing I-DRX mode on the same paging resources. Additionally or alternatively, paging may be differentiated for eI-DRX mode UEs using separate paging occasions or a new paging radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

  • Patent number: 10433275
Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed toward enabling location support for 5G New Radio (NR) wireless access by a user equipment (UE) by utilizing existing LTE location support. More specifically, LTE positioning protocol (LPP) messages may be communicated between a UE with NR wireless access and a location server (e.g. an LMF) in a 5G Core Network via an NG-RAN. The LPP messages may support RAT-independent and E-UTRA position methods by the UE such as A-GNSS or OTDOA for E-UTRA. The location server may obtain OTDOA related information from eNBs and ng-eNBs supporting LTE wireless access. A UE may request measurement gaps from a 5G base station (e.g. gNB) in order to obtain measurements for RAT-independent and E-UTRA position methods and may request an idle period in order to obtain LTE timing needed for E-UTRA measurements.

  • Publication number: 20190268876
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate notifying and detecting modification of system information in a wireless communication system. A mobile device may detect an inability to receive a paging message transmitted by a base station during a first time period, receive at least one system information block (SIB) transmitted by the base station during a second time period, and determine whether to receive one or more additional SIBs transmitted by the base station in the second time period based on information obtained from the at least one SIB received. The mobile device may detect an inability to receive a paging message upon entering a cell from being out of service or upon initial device starting up. The mobile device may determine whether to receive one or more additional SIBs by comparing a value tag of the at least one SIB received to a previously stored value tag.

  • Publication number: 20190208542
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, user equipment (UE) has autonomy provided by one or more set of rules to handle processing during a measurement gap. UE can ignore or use only a portion of the whole measurement gap if not needed. Thereby, an urgent need for remaining tuned to source carrier frequency can be supported, such as utilizing Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure. UE can also choose to tune to a target carrier frequency supporting timely handovers. Depending on the type of processing required (download shared channel (DL-SCH, UL-SCH, TTI bundling, RACH or SR), the UE may store requests and process the measurements during the gap or ignore the gap measurement as if there were no gaps.
