Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for forming finished cups of expanded resin of the present invention employ a transfer mold capable of transferring a performed article obtained through a preforming process to the female member of a finish-forming mold, and simultaneously collecting from the male member of the finish-forming mold a finished article, obtained through compression forming and discharging it after an inspection process, and enable a first process where the transfer mold receives a preformed article through a feeding device, a second process where the finished article is discharged from the transfer mold to a sorting device wherein conforming articles are counted and stacked, and a third process where another preformed article is heated and compressed within the finish-forming mold, to be conducted simultaneously.

Abstract: Forming method of producing thin-walled finished articles such as cups of expanded resin including steps of: heating beads of expandable thermoplastic resin in a mold cavity of a preforming mold, causing the beads to be expanded and fused together to produce a preformed article; transferring the preformed article as pressurized in an atmosphere under pressure to a finish-forming mold; and compressively forming the preformed article with the finish-forming mold.

Abstract: A steam aperture device in a mold for use in preparing a foamed article. The steam aperture device comprises an aperture member extending therethrough and a moving member movably inserted in the aperture member. The aperture member forms a truncated conical wall progressively enlarged toward the end on one side and a cylindrical wall on the other side, both walls having a common axis. The moving member has a truncated conical surface corresponding to the truncated conical wall and a cylindrical surface, the moving member forming a gap between the truncated conical surface and the truncated conical wall when the moving member is raised from the aperture member. A steam passage is formed in at least one of the aperture member and the moving member, one end of the steam passage being opened on the other side and the other end of the steam passage communicating with the gap formed when the moving member is raised.
