  • Patent number: 4812167
Abstract: A sludge-like waste containing fine particulate gallium compound, an organic substance capable of forming coke upon calcination and a light oil or water are treated for the recovery of the gallium value as molten metallic gallium by a process wherein the waste is first dried to form a dense aggregate of the particulate gallium compound, followed by calcination and vacuum thermal decomposition. The aggregate may be molded under pressure into any desired shape before calcination.

  • Patent number: 4525267
Abstract: A process for hydrocracking hydrocarbons for residuum conversion in the presence of a fluidized catalyst, which is characterized by extracting at least part of the fluidized catalyst from the reaction system as a spent catalyst, subjecting at least part of the spent catalyst to hydrotreatment for solubilizing toluene-insoluble carbonaceous materials deposited on the catalyst thereby regenerating the spent catalyst, and recycling the regenerated catalyst to the hydrocracking step. According to this process, the spent catalyst is recycled to the hydrocracking step in a highly activated state after the regenerative hydrotreatment, so that it becomes possible to suppress the coke production within the reactor to a considerable degree, to maintain the coke level of the catalyst below a predetermined value and to preclude the contamination of the reactor walls with coke.

  • Patent number: 4486295
Abstract: Heavy hydrocarbon oils are processed by hydrotreatment over a sepiolite supported metal catalyst, described fuller in U.S. Pat. No. 4,152,250, whereby metallic impurities are removed from the oil and its asphaltene content is decreased, and the hydrotreated oil is solvent deasphalted using a propane, butane, pentane, hexane or heptane solvent or mixtures of these to give a deasphalted oil suitable for further treatment, e.g. hydrodesulphurization, and an asphaltic residue.

  • Patent number: 4340466
Abstract: A process for catalytically hydrotreating a heavy oil containing soluble metals in two steps at a temperature of 320.degree. to 470.degree. C. and a hydrogen pressure of 30 to 350 kg/cm.sup.2, wherein the oil is substantially desulfurized in the first step in the presence of a first-step catalyst and then demetallized in the second step in the presence of a second-step catalyst, the desulfurization selectivity (as defined in the specification) of the first-step catalyst being higher than that of the second-step catalyst. According to this process, the metal content and the sulfur content of the treated oil can be prescribed at the desired levels, and a low-sulfur, low-metal oil can be obtained with a relatively small amount of hydrogen chemically consumed.

  • Patent number: 4120780
Abstract: A catalyst obtained by admixing red mud with alumina or/and an alumina-containing substance, optionally adjusting the water content of the admixture and/or adding an organic binder to the admixture, kneading and shaping the admixture into pellets having suitable size and shape, and calcining the pellets of 600.degree. C to 1,100.degree. C. The catalyst has a high compression strength and can, when used in the hydrodemetallization of hydrocarbons, achieve a high rate of demetallization and a low yield of low boiling fractions. The rate of demetallization is enhanced when the process is carried out using a hydrogen feed containing hydrogen sulfide.
