Patent number: 4325467Abstract: In a caliper brake for a bicycle, a shaft member extending through a brake arm is provided either on a fixture securing an end of an operating wire to a first brake arm or on a support provided on a second brake arm for an outer pipe guiding the operating wire. The shaft member is detachably mounted on the brake arm and includes a portion projecting from the brake arm which portion is provided with a groove. A wire retaining member is provided with a pivotal portion and an engaging portion, the pivotal portion being pivotally attached to the brake arm and the engaging portion engaging with the groove.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4318307Abstract: A brake operating device for a bicycle has a bracket which carries a control lever pivoted thereto and is adjustable mounted to a fixed member fixed to a handle bar of the bicycle. Structures are provided to enable the bracket position to be changed with respect to the fixed member to adjust the distance between the grip of the control lever and the handle bar without changing the relative position of an outer sheath of a control cable supported at the bracket with respect to a control wire of a control cable supported at the control lever.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1979Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4223563Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a speed control lever to a bicycle is so constructed that a bearing member, which is fixed to an upper end of a head pipe of the bicycle, is extended axially upwardly to form an extension which rotatably supports the speed control lever.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1978Date of Patent: September 23, 1980Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4222285Abstract: A brake control device for a bicycle is disclosed having main and auxiliary levers which are pivoted to a bracket fixed to the handle bar of a bicycle. The levers are mounted to be swingable independently of one another to swingingly move a wire hook which is integral with the auxiliary lever and which anchors one end of a brake control wire. The main lever is provided with an engaging member for swinging the wire hook upon main lever operation and between the engaging member and wire is provided an adjusting bolt for adjusting the relative position of the wire hook and engaging member. Adjustment of the adjusting bolt controls the distance between the grip portion of the auxiliary lever and the portion of the handle bar opposite thereto. An adjustment of the distance between the main lever and the portion of the handle bar opposite it can also be effected through the provision of an adjustable ratchet mechanism provided in association with the main lever.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1978Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4179013Abstract: A coil spring is provided which extends around and along a peripheral cylindrical surface formed of a cylindrical boss defined at the central portion of a rotary body and an adjacent cylindrical mounting tube of a bicycle wheel hub to which the rotary body is screwed for rotation therewith. When the rotary body receives braking torque from a braking surface applied thereto in a manner which would cause an unscrewing of the rotary body from the mounting tube, the coil spring becomes smaller in diameter to tighten about the cylindrical boss and mounting tube to prevent the unscrewing of the rotary body.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1978Date of Patent: December 18, 1979Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4124107Abstract: A multistage freewheel for bicycles, comprising a plurality of at least two sprockets which are divided into at least a low speed stage and a high speed stage which are rotatable independently with respect to a support. Each of the sprockets is separately applied with a rotary resistance so that a single sprocket may be of less resistance thereby securing safety in the operation of the bicycle.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1976Date of Patent: November 7, 1978Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 4084449Abstract: A brake lever mounted to a drop type handle for a bicycle, comprising a main lever substantially parallel to a bent rod section and an auxiliary lever parallel to a straight rod section of the drop type handle. The auxiliary lever is shiftable in pivoted position from the main lever so that the strokes of both levers may cause substantially equal strokes of a control wire and so that the grip dimension, the distance between the auxiliary lever and the straight rod section, may be adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1976Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine
-
Patent number: 4027746Abstract: A center-pull type caliper brake for a bicycle having a pair of brake arms. One of the brake arms directly secures therewith a terminal of a control wire and the other pivotally supports a retainer having a grip which retains the control wire.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1976Date of Patent: June 7, 1977Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine
-
Patent number: 3973451Abstract: A five-speed transmission hub having a speed transmitting mechanism comprising two sun gears, two pairs of planet gears and two ring gears which are provided with pairs of rotary transmitting pawls of an engageable or disengageable control type, in which a clutch and a control mechanism thereof may be moved for controlling the pawls by the single operation of a lever, thereby making it possible to carry out the five-speed transmission of the hub.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1974Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 3957138Abstract: An automatic adjusting device for a bicycle brake exerted by stretching a control cable comprising an outer cable and an inner wire, which is adapted to be provided at the retaining side of the outer cable thereof with an adjusting member, at the retaining side of the inner wire with an actuating member, and between both members with a clutch spring so that the length of the outer cable relative to that of the inner wire may automatically be corrected.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1974Date of Patent: May 18, 1976Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine

Patent number: 3935930Abstract: A fluid pressure brake system for a bicycle or a motorcycle having a master cylinder which is provided with an excess portion extending from the end of the cylinder to have a given length more than a maximum pressure stroke of the piston of the master cylinder; this portion is provided internally thereof with an adjusting member controlling the inner volume thereof. Thus, the adjustment of the adjusting member keeps the brake action so as to be constantly responding to a predetermined swing of an operating lever at a handle bar despite leakage of fluid and wear of brake padding, thereby making it possible to perform consistent braking action.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1974Date of Patent: February 3, 1976Assignee: Shimano Industrial Company, LimitedInventor: Masayoshi Kine
