  • Patent number: 6382100
Abstract: A roller assembly positioned downstream of a printing station in a web-fed rotary printing press for pneumatically guiding a web of paper after it has been printed upon, without the risk of smearing the printings. The assembly includes a roller in the form of a hollow cylinder defining a plenum chamber therein and having formed in its surface a multiplicity of air outlet openings in communication with the plenum chamber. Air supplied under pressure to the chamber is therefore expelled from the air outlet openings in order to avoid contact with the roller the web traveling over the rollera baffle encloses at least part of the circumferential part of the roller surface for confining the air being expelled from said at least part of the other circumferential part of the roller surface and for redirecting the confined air into a pair of spaces, spaced, between the web and the roller.

  • Patent number: 6374735
Abstract: A plate cylinder has formed therein a groove extending parallel to the cylinder axis and having a depth direction thereof set at an angle to a plane tangent to the plate cylinder at the groove, so that the opposite sides of the groove are at acute and obtuse angles, respectively, to that plane. For use with this plate cylinder, the printing plate has two staggered series of spaced lugs formed on a pair of meeting edges of its image-bearing major part. The two series of lugs are bent at approximately the same acute and obtuse angles, respectively, to the major part as the opposite sides of the groove are to the tangential plane. For mounting the plate to the cylinder, the acute-angled series of lugs of the plate are first inserted in the groove in the cylinder so as to hook these lugs onto the acute-angled leading side of the groove. Then the plate is wrapped around the cylinder by rotating the same in a prescribed direction.

  • Patent number: 6194061
Abstract: A thermoplastic laminate film containing a thermoplastic substrate film and a layer formed from a resin composition containing a polyester graft copolymer (A) and a resin (B), the layer being formed on at least one side of the thermoplastic substrate film, the polyester graft copolymer (A) being obtained by grafting at least one polymerizable unsaturated monomer, which contains an acid anhydride having a double bond, to a hydrophobic polyester resin, and the resin (B) containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of a polyurethane resin, an acrylic resin and a vinyl resin. The adhesion improving layer of the inventive thermoplastic laminate film shows superior adhesion strength in a broad range of applications.

  • Patent number: 5655397
Abstract: The rolling mill includes upper and lower work rolls, a roll bending apparatus for applying a bending force to the upper and lower work rolls, a roll shifter for axially shifting the upper and lower work rolls in opposite directions, and a back-up roll for supporting the upper and lower work rolls. The upper and lower work rolls have a bus having a contour comprising first to fifth regions. The rolling mill is adapted to have the large changability of plate crown effected by the roll shifting on plates with narrow or intermediate widths. The use of a combination of roll shifting and roll bending causes contours of the upper and lower work rolls to overlap deflection of the upper and lower work rolls, resulting in that a smooth roll diameter profile across the width of the plate to be rolled where the upper and lower work rolls contact the plate.
