  • Patent number: 7123337
Abstract: A LCD device is provided. On the input side, the collimated-light generator generates collimated light from incident light and then, the first polarizer plate of the first polarized-light controller generates first polarized light from the collimated light. The first quarter wavelength plate of the first polarized-light controller generates second polarized light from the first polarized light. The second polarized light thus generated passes through the liquid crystal layer to reach the output side. On the output side, the second polarized light passes through the second quarter wavelength plate of the second polarized-light controller and the second quarter wavelength plate thereof. Thus, the polarization state of the second polarized light is returned to its original one.

  • Publication number: 20060222396
Abstract: If a designation detector detects one of icons representing peripheral equipment (image forming apparatuses) displayed on a monitor screen by a display controller in response to operator's manipulation, an operation information acquirer acquires, from the respective peripheral equipment, operation information indicating a job status of the respective peripheral equipment represented by all the icons displayed on the monitor screen. If it is judged that the peripheral equipment represented by the icon whose designation has been detected by the designation detector is in a state of processing a job, the display controller changes the display format of the icon representing a peripheral equipment in an idling state.

  • Patent number: 7015995
Abstract: An anisotropic reflection electrode has an undulated shape and whose normal direction is distributed unevenly to a specific azimuth angle and whose reflection light intensity depends on said azimuth angle. Openings are formed in that area of the reflection electrode which has a tilt angle of 0 degree to 2 degrees and/or a tilt angle of 10 degrees or higher. In one aspect, the retardation of a liquid crystal layer is changed by making the liquid crystal molecular alignment mode different between the openings and the reflection electrode, so that the intensity of output light is increased in reflection mode as well as in transmission mode. The balance of colors displayed in transmission mode is determined by determining the area of the openings in pixels of each color, and the color temperature is set higher in transmission mode than in reflection mode. This provides a semi-transmission type liquid crystal display which has an excellent visibility in reflection mode as well as in transmission mode.

  • Patent number: 6987551
Abstract: An in-plane-switching liquid crystal display unit has a two-dimensional matrix of pixel regions each including a first auxiliary region and a second auxiliary region. When no electric field is applied, liquid crystal molecules in the first and second auxiliary regions are directed in respective orientations that lie at 90° with respect to each other. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are rotated in the same direction while maintaining their orientations in the first and second auxiliary regions at 90° with respect to each other. Alternatively, the liquid crystal molecules in the first and second auxiliary regions are directed in the same orientation when no electric field is applied, and when a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are rotated opposite directions while maintaining their orientations in symmetric relationship.

  • Patent number: 6978963
Abstract: Continuous web feed is provided by using an apparatus for unwinding a web on a continuous basis by means of an automatic web splicing apparatus. An arm supporting a web roll is rocked when unwinding of the web is switched between web rolls. When the web is switched from one of web rolls (roll A) to the other (roll B), the remaining core of the web roll is removed subsequent to switching. Then the web roll installation position is shifted to the side reverse to the front and back of the web being unwound from the other web roll (roll B). After that, a new web roll is mounted in position. When the web is switched from the other web roll (roll B) to the web roll (roll A), the remaining core of the web roll is removed subsequent to switching. The web roll installation position is arranged in such a way that a new web roll is then mounted on the same side as the front and back of the web being unwound from the web roll.
