  • Patent number: 5492376
Abstract: A connecting and fitting method is provided for metallic pipes with a small diameter. The method includes providing a piping component having a tube wall extending therefrom and defining an expanded chamber. The method further includes providing a pipe member and forming at least one circumferential discontinuity in the pipe member near one end. The end of the pipe member is then inserted through an annular sealing component and into the expanded chamber defined by the tube wall. A diameter reducing area is then formed on the tube wall at a location substantially registered with the circumferential discontinuity in the pipe member to squeeze and tightly seal the sealing component into connecting engagement with the circumferential discontinuity on the pipe member.

  • Patent number: 5113653
Abstract: In an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus, at least two honeycomb core bodies each as an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst are arranged, with at least one axial space therebetween, in a metal casing. Each core body is composed of a sheet-like band and a corrugated band. The outer peripheral surfaces of the core bodies are fixed to the inner surface of the casing so that each core body is expandable and contractible axially. The axial space effectively absorbs and relaxes the stress due to large thermal strains acting on the individual core bodies, thus causing an improved durability.

  • Patent number: 5109888
Abstract: This invention provides a high pressure metallic pipe having at least one end thereof provided with a connecting head suitable for connection to a counter seat part and a method for shaping the connecting head. The high pressure metallic pipe according to this invention features a metallic ring embedded in a cavity formed therein at the time of buckling so that no cavity erosion due to the high pressure fluid flowing through the pipe takes place. Further, according to the method of this invention, one end of the thick metallic pipe, having a comparatively small outer diameter, is expanded by buckling, a metallic ring is inserted into the extended pipe end and the pipe end is pressed by a punch to form a connecting head with the metallic ring embedded therein.

  • Patent number: 5104627
Abstract: In an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus, at least two honeycomb core bodies each carrying a cleaning catalyst are arranged, with at least one axial space therebetween, in a metal casing having an enlarged-diameter portion. The outer peripheral surfaces of the core bodies are fixed to the inner surface of the casing so that each core body is expandable and contractible axially. The result is that separation between each core body and the casing can be prevented, thus improving the durability. Further, an excellent cleaning performance can be achieved not only due to the heat insulating effect as well as the gas stirring effect by the enlarged-diameter casing portion, but also due to the gas turbulent effect by the inter-body space.
