    Abstract: An endoscope includes an insertion portion having an elongated shape, an imaging unit provided at a distal portion of the insertion portion and configured to acquire an image of a specimen, a lighting unit configured to illuminate an observation field of view of the imaging unit, and a pattern projector having a light source configured to emit projection light to project a light and dark pattern on the specimen. The pattern projector generates a region, in which the light and dark pattern is not projected, in at least one end of a direction in which stripes of the light and dark pattern are arranged in an imaging field of view of the imaging unit, in a state in which the light and dark pattern is projected on the specimen.

A tip surface of the insertion section includes an objective optical system that forms the image of the subject on the imaging section, one or more illumination windows through which illumination light is emitted, and one projection window through which a fringe pattern is projected onto the subject from the pattern projection section.

A measuring unit for reading information from a recording medium on which optical data specific to the optical adaptor is recorded, correcting the optical data on the basis of an error in position of an imaging system in the main endoscope unit, performing coordinate conversion on images used for measurement on the basis of the corrected optical data, and calculating three-dimensional coordinates of any points by matching the two images having undergone coordinate conversion.
