  • Patent number: 5803131
Abstract: A fuel additive pipe 11 comprised of a pipe main body 12 and a plating layer 13 formed on the external or interior wall surface of the pipe main body 12 and composed of an electroless plating layer 131 and an electroplating layer 132. The pipe main body 12 contains a high-density polyethylene as a base material and an additive 21 such as mica. While the pipe main body 12 is subjected to an etching treatment, the additive 21 does not dissolve in the etching solution, so that the additive 21 protrudes from the surface of the pipe main body 12. The thus protruding additive 21 serves as the starting point for forming the electroless plating layer 131 and promotes growth of the layer 131. This electroless plating layer 131 is firmly bonded with the pipe main body 12 by chemical absorption to the additive 21 from which inactive sites are removed by the etching treatment as well as by the physical absorption to the fine roughness formed by the etching treatment on the surface of the pipe main body 12.

  • Patent number: 5631107
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing an optical member having excellent optical characteristics. An optical member is composed of a support plate and an optical sheet stuck on said plate via an optical adhesive. The optical adhesive is made sticky after it is coated, including ultraviolet-curing adhesives, epoxy adhesives and their mixtures. To produce the optical member, the optical sheet is formed on the surface of a fixed substrate via a transfer film. The optical adhesive is coated onto the optical sheet, the adhesive is made sticky on the sheet, the fixed substrate is peeled off, the sheet is stuck onto the support plate using the adhesive, and the adhesive is cured.

  • Patent number: 5477318
Abstract: In an apparatus for detecting a property of a liquid, light is emitted from a light emitting element towards an interface between a liquid to be measured and a prism in an interface channel. Reflected light from the interface is received by a light receiving device, and a refractive index of the liquid is obtained from the total reflection critical angle. A cleaning member capable of contacting the interface by the flow of the liquid is provided. The cleaning member may be a small body or a floating member, a tape/string member having one end fixed to a channel wall, or a wiper swingable by the flow of the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4400782
Abstract: In a monitoring system for protecting a metal pipe against corrosion, transmission of monitoring signals is carried out by the use of the pipe itself as a transmission line between a center station and a substation, which are coupled to the pipe at center and subordinate locations, respectively. The substation sends data signals over the pipe to the center station. These data signals represent the degree of corrosion that is measured at the subordinate location and are monitored by the center station. When a plurality of substations are coupled to the pipe, the center station selects a substation by transmitting through the pipe an address assigned to the substation. Each substation returns the assigned address to the center station in combination with the signals representing the measured degree of corrosion at the addressed substation. Preferably, the center station produces the selected address twice while each substation produces the assigned address and the measured corrosion signal, twice.
