  • Patent number: 6092164
Abstract: A microcomputer comprising a CPU for outputting a signal requesting generation of pulses when receiving an erase signal requesting processing to initialize a flash memory unit; a timer for generating the pulses when receiving the signal requesting generation of the pulses output by the CPU wherein the frequency of a system clock is divided to produce clock pulses and each of the pulses is generated whenever the number of clock pulses reaches a set value; and a memory control unit for executing the processing to initialize the flash memory unit as well as measuring a time it takes to carry out the processing by counting the number of pulses output by the timer when receiving the erase signal.

  • Patent number: 6088713
Abstract: If an unnecessary sentence is included in data tabulated at a display, a head address is prepared in a memory region for storing a new data group. A counter m indicating a function and a counter n indicating a data number corresponding to the function are initialized. A determination whether or not the data (Y(m)) is necessary is made for every function (X(m, n)), and the only necessary data is stored in the memory. This operation is performed to check four functions and 100 pieces of data for each of the four functions. When the operation is completed, the resultant data is stored as a set of data in the memory.

  • Patent number: 6081457
Abstract: An over-erasure preventing device which applies, when erasing data written in a memory cell, an erasing voltage to an N-type source, and a potential difference reducing voltage to a control gate, so that the potential difference between the N-type source and control gate is reduced. This makes it possible to solve a problem involved in a conventional device in that once the memory cell has been destroyed by an over-erasure, the data read and write become impossible although the over-erasure can be remedied.

  • Patent number: 6056196
Abstract: An optical reading apparatus with which, when it is not being driven, the power supply to most parts is turned off and wasteful battery consumption is prevented, when the host computer side finishes processing with respect to the bar code reader handy terminal 2 and extinguishes the light-emitting device 30, because the light-receiving device 28 of the power supply part 70 transmits a power supply control signal indicative of driving the power supply OFF, the switching circuit 74 turns off the driving power supply from the battery 72 to the processor 40 and the functioning of the processor 40 stops. Because the processor 40 has its power supply turned on by the host computer due to this, at times of waiting for instructions from the host computer side that which is driven is the power supply part 70 only. Because the consumption of the storage battery 72 of driving of the power supply part 70 is extremely low compared with driving of the stand 4, needless consumption of the battery 72 can be prevented.
