In the system, a plurality of circuits provided in plurality of camera accessories are controlled by a microcomputer provided in the camera body. Data is transmitted between the microcomputer and the circuits using a serial data bus and synchronizing clock line connected therebetween. The circuit to receive the data sent from the microcomputer, or the circuit which should send the data to the microcomputer are selected by the microcomputer through chip select lines provided between the microcomputer and each circuit.

Abstract: A mounting device on a camera has a mounting member to fit with an accessory so as to mount the accessory on the camera by sliding it. The mounting member which is molded out of plastic in one piece has eaves-like portions overhanging from an upper portion thereof in opposite directions intersecting perpendicularly to a mounting direction of the accessory, thus having a generally T-shaped cross section. The mounting member has a groove running in the mounting direction at a top central portion for receiving a projecting portion of the accessory so as to determine a horizontal (lateral) position of the accessory relative to the camera. The eaves-like portions receive mating members of the accessory thereunder so as to determine a vertical position of the accessory relative to the camera.

The flash unit includes a light emitter switchable between an emission permit state in which the light emitter is projected from a body of the flash device and an emission prohibit state in which the light emitter is retracted into the body. The flash unit further includes a control circuit for selectively placing the light emitter in the emission permit state and the emission prohibit state. A main switch is provided in the camera body to be switchable between a position for permitting a camera operation and a position for prohibiting the camera operation. When the light emitter is placed in the emission permit state when the main switch is switched to the position for permitting the camera operation.

Abstract: An accessory shoe for mounting an electronic flash device on a camera, which is provided at a top portion of the camera and has a plurality of terminals for circuitry of the camera arrayed in a direction in which the electronic flash device is inserted into the accessory shoe. Of the plurality of terminals, a terminal which leads to an X contact and outputs a signal indicative of a situation of the X contact is located at a position closest to an insertion opening of the accessory shoe and is connected to a terminal on an electronic flash device for inputting the signal at the end of a mounting procedure of the electronic flash device.
