Patent number: 5994668Abstract: A method for irradiating a workpiece making a relative move in accordance with a work program with a laser beam for cutting the workpiece includes steps of interrupting the cutting being executed and then restarting the cutting. As the cutting is restarted, machining of the workpiece is performed under specified conditions for a predetermined distance and a predetermined time to provide sufficient machining of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1997Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masayuki Sugahara, Toshihiro Mori

Patent number: 5847359Abstract: A laser beam machining system which can select optimum work conditions at a restart point and restart cutting after a temporary emergency stop. In the machining system, a work command section receives a command based on a work program from a program analysis section and outputs a work command for operating a laser oscillator and a laser beam machine. The work command section also receives a restart command for releasing an emergency stop state from a restart command section, and generates and outputs a corrected work command for work restart in conjunction with the restart command section.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1996Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masayuki Sugahara, Toshihiro Mori

Patent number: 5463202Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting the machining status of a laser beam machining device, having a multi-mirror resonator for generating a machining beam, which utilizes the secondary light generated by the machining operation and returned from the workpiece surface into the resonator for control of the machining operation. The oscillator and accompanying components, such as beam dividing mirrors and splitters, are operative to separate the secondary light from the laser beam within the resonator and direct the two beams separately to detectors located outside of the resonator. Alternatively, the secondary light and laser beam may be directed to the outside together where they are separated by an integrating sphere for detection.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1993Date of Patent: October 31, 1995Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Miki Kurosawa, Shuji Ogawa, Masayuki Sugahara, Kiyoshi Funai, Takashi Yumura, Tetsu Yamamoto

Patent number: 5293024Abstract: A laser cutting apparatus which allows cutting to be automatically restarted or redone without intervention from an operator once a cutting error or fault occurs. In a first embodiment, when the fault occurs the apparatus discontinues processing on the product corresponding to the fault. Thereafter, it moves to, and restarts cutting at, a starting position of the next product to be cut. In a second embodiment, the apparatus corrects a fault and continues cutting on the product corresponding to the fault by restarting cutting at the fault point. It determines whether a restart is possible at the point of the fault based on the type or definition of the fault. If a predetermined number of restarts are attempted at the point of fault without a successful restart, then the apparatus moves to a new start position. In another embodiment, the apparatus uses a profile sensor to prevent machine damage by sensing the position of the cutting head relative to the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1992Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masayuki Sugahara, Hitoshi Ozawa, Kiyoshi Hattori
