  • Patent number: 7458440
Abstract: In a vehicle exhaust system support structure, an upstream side exhaust pipe connected to an engine is guided to an inlet of a muffler supported on a vehicle body, and a downstream side exhaust pipe coupled to an outlet of the muffler is disposed in the interior of a rear bumper. The upstream side exhaust pipe and the inlet of the muffler are coupled to each other via a flexible tube, thus floatingly supporting the upstream side exhaust pipe in the muffler. The downstream portion of the upstream side exhaust pipe passes through the interior of the flexible tube, and is inserted into the inlet of the muffler.

  • Patent number: 6554099
Abstract: A cap-like valve body is fitted on an outer circumference of an end portion of a communicating pipe that provides a communication between a plurality of silencing chambers formed in a muffler main body. A compressed coil spring is mounted between a flange of the communicating pipe and a flange of the valve body. Communication holes are formed in a cylindrical portion of the valve body. When the valve body receives the pressure of the exhaust gases at a pressure receiving surface and moves along the axial direction against the biasing force of the spring, the exhaust gases within the communicating pipe flow out of the communication holes to the outside of the valve body.

  • Patent number: 6360782
Abstract: An exhaust pipe assembly of two-passage and double-pipe construction has an inner pipe; a partition plate meeting the inner pipe at both diametrical meeting ends thereof so as to be elongated in a longitudinal direction of the inner pipe. Two passages divided across a diameter of said inner pipe are thus formed. The assembly also has an outer pipe which covers the inner pipe with a thermally insulating space around a periphery of the inner pipe. The outer pipe has on one longitudinal end thereof a connecting portion for connection with a mating member. One end of the inner pipe is fixedly connected to the outer pipe with a clearance between the periphery of the inner pipe near each of the meeting ends and an inner circumference of the outer pipe.

  • Patent number: 6065564
Abstract: To a housing having a valve opening which serves as a bypass passage for exhaust gases, there is fixed one end portion of a plate valve which is capable of elastic deformation by deflection. The housing is provided with an enclosing wall which projects in a direction of opening of the plate valve in a manner to enclose the plate valve. A valve opening is formed by an inner peripheral space of the enclosing wall. When the exhaust gas pressure exceeds a predetermined pressure, the plate valve is deformed to a position beyond the open end of the enclosing wall, whereby the valve opening is opened to passage. A plate spring to contact the plate valve is provided. With an increase in the amount of deflection in the opening direction, the position of contact of the plate spring deviates toward a fixing end of the plate valve. The bending moment to be applied to the plate valve in a closing direction decreases.
